I love the gallery, but there is one thing I would really love to see added (or the offer of a way to add it myself), direct download.

At the moment, a user views a thumbnail, clicks on it and (if medium iimages are set) then views the medium image. Clicking on that opens the medium image again (if the full image is larger) and you need to wait for the image to download to the window (in the meantime you cannot browse the gallery). When it has, you must expand the image and then right click to save the full one.

I would like a user to be able to click on the thumbnail and be presented with the medium image with a "Download Here" button (or link) beneath previous/next.
When a user clicks on this, and http transfer is started and the download can begin using the image name (minus non-standard chars) rather than 10_20_19_...etc.

This would make the gallery far more manageable when hosting large files. My images are often over 3000x3000 and in the region of 3-5 megs.

I would be thrilled to see this implimented or at the least someone to aid me in doing it myself, though this puts me off as an update would undo the work.

Thanks in (hopeful) advance.

At least it must be selectable from the settings if we want to use it or not. For example, we would disable the 'Direct Download' link. Our users want to show there work and we use small images (only 250kB  Cheesy). Of course they still can expand the image and then right click to save.

Regards, Vincent.

Yes, certainly as an option in gallery admin.

I have medium images set at max 800x800 and a lot of people download them, not realising that the same image is also available at (eg) 4500x4500.
I tried setting it to just display the large image upon thumb click, but the wait was too much while it filled the browser ready for "right-click".

That is why a nice http standard file download option would be great. Click thumb, start download, and continue browsing the gallery. Sweet, tidy, and intuitive.

So, pretty please!!!

I have just had another thought for you mr SMFHacks...

If you could add the "Download Image" link to medium and large images, this would also enable download stats to be logged.. So, as well as views, downloads could be added (even if only for admins assurance that the images are reaching their audience)..

Just a thought!
(I suffer from them Smiley )

I would happily donate toward the work involved in the "download" feature. It is all that I need to make the Gallery PERFECT! Wink

So, (sorry to go on about this), but is this an option?

Thanks SMFHacks. I have a link working, but not with the 'class' of which you would have administered Smiley

I shall patiently look forward to the next release.
