@Smfhacks:
I tested the newsletter again tonight, to send a weekend newsletter. The good news is that the previous error messages from ManageNews.php didn't show up. So that bit of help worked.
And it got to 100% sent (or I believe it did, after 99% the page automatically refreshed)
Now, the unpleasant news:
Under the reports tab, it shows zero newsletters sent.
So I don't know who received the newsletter (if anyone) or who opted out.
And under the lists tab, It still doesn’t show that any newsletters have been sent and I get the following message:
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
Database Error: The SELECT would examine more than MAX_JOIN_SIZE rows; check your WHERE and use SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 or SET SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE=# if the SELECT is okay
File: /home/icfreeho/public_html/Sources/Load.php(1733) : eval()'d code
Line: 473
Would you please tell me your suggestions for fixing these two issues?
Thank you

Is this your own server or is it in a shared hosting account if it is your own server we can make some changes to MySQL itself.

It's on a shared server, unfortunately.
What's puzzling to me is that the first time I tried using the software, it sent part of the e-mails and the report showed the number sent. In this case, it didn't send anything, even though it appeared to be running & sending.
I should mention that I used the drop down feature within the newsletter tab to send a specific message to one list of members. Not sure whether that makes a difference
And I didn't disable pretty urls (it did send some messages earlier without this being disabled)
Any other suggestions?

Try this change makes the query a little shorter since it changes how many emails it pulls at once.
Open
Sources/ManageNews.php
Find
Code:
// How many to send at once?
$num_at_once = 60;
Change to
Code:
// How many to send at once?
$num_at_once = 20;
If you have prettyurls I suggest use the skip action list setting and add admin,news to that list.
