The image download link presented for each image doesn't appear to work on Ipads, what's the reason?

Probably not supported on ipads. Different technology may ipads don't accept downloads.

What do you suggest we do, so that if Ipad users view the gallery, it doesn't show, for example

Yeah check the useeragent if ipad don't show.

It's strange because it works properly on Android, just not on iPads
