SMF Gallery Lite Help Information
Here is some help information on the SMF Gallery Website with some more detail information on SMF Gallery.
I will be updating this page often with new and improved information
http://www.smfhacks.com/smfgallery/help/
-
some screen shotsa of it would be handy .. or a demo of it running here oe somewhere else.. so i can see what i'm going to be installing.. and see differences between lite and pro..
-
I have some screenshots out at
http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=473
Pro version isn't released yet but will be so within a week or two and you will be able to upgrade from Lite to Pro.
http://www.smfhacks.com/smf-gallery-pro.php

I tried to uninstall Gallery Lite so I could install Tiny portal. It wouldnt completely uninstall. So I deleted and reuploaded my entire forum cleanly including dropping all tables. On the last install it now installed 2 Gallery lites creating 2 seperate packkages and tabs on the default forum
-
It installed twice? Try to see if you can unistall one of them.
If not you can edit index.template.php and remove the second button.
-
Great little tuturial for people new to tiny portal.
Also great so people can't spam on the forum asking for help. Good job on the Help section.
-
Has the download for Lite been updated recently? I still have the original from just a few days after you developed it.
Also do you report here when a new updated version is available with big fixes and upgrades?
-
Yeah it has been updated its on version 1.6.5 mostly bug fixes.
-
Hi
I read the help files and got a lot of good information.
But i would need some help getting the "gallery" button shown with my theme Helios multicolor.
I am testing smf 1.0.8 with the helios theme but i could not find instructions on what to do in the index.template.php to get the gallery button shown, as i'm not used to work with php.
We are hoping to get this gallery working as something special for our club members.
(sorry for my bad english)

Attach the index.template.php of your helios theme here.
-
There it is.

Thanks for your quick reply

Find
// Edit Profile... [profile]
Add before
// Gallery... [gallery]
if ($context['allow_smfgallery_view'])
echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=gallery">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/gallery.gif" alt="' . $txt['smfgallery_menu'] . '" style="margin: 0px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt['smfgallery_menu']), '</a></td>';
You need to add a galery button to your themes/helio/images/language folder
-
Thanks again. I got it working.
The next thing to do is to translate those three files into my own language and make a suitable gallery button for my theme.
I will post the translations to the "language pack" topic.
-
I have browsed the info here and on other forums and still can't get a button to appear.

Fixed the file you were missing a " for the gallery button url
-
I had no sooner posted and you had it fixed! Thanks so much as everything is up and working.
-
I have been going over whats been posted here and its getting me close to where i need to be. im useing SMF ver 1.1.1 and usung the WoW-DK theme. i can get the button grahpic to show, but the link is missing inside it. in the admin panel, the admin link is missing and just a blank is shown were the link should be. lastly the permissions dont show up either. if i change the theme back to the default theme, everything works.
it is most likely something really simple that im missing, but for the life of me cant figure out what it is.
site address is http://kalimdorhh.com/forums (http://kalimdorhh.com/forums)

Copy the text from modifications.english.php in the default themes languages folder. And copy it to each theme that had modifications.english in the themes/themename/languages folder
-
aha! i knew it was something simple i was overlooking. thanks for the assistance.
-
I just tried installing this them. It installed, but I get nothing. No permissions, no icon, no new folders for the gallery, nowhere do I see any setting for the gallery, nothing. It does show installed in the packages directory though.
www.taurusarmed.net just in case you want to look. :)
-
Fixed ... it was a chmod thing. I read another thread and had to actually set file rights to all my files individually!

Hi all, i've read all the messages, but they did not help me.
I just installed a new SMF 1.1.1 with no other packages or themes at all. I installed the SMF Gallery and it perfectly shows it as installed, yet nothing happened. No button no nothing came up. Moreover, when I tried to uninstall the package it gives lots of errors. First this;
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
Then these;
Type Action Description
1. Execute Modification E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php Test failed
2. Execute Modification E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/languages/Who.english.php Test successful
3. Execute Modification ./index.php Test failed
4. Execute Modification E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/index.template.php Test failed
5. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
6. Execute Modification ./Sources/ManagePermissions.php Test failed
7. Delete File ./Sources/Gallery.php
8. Delete File E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/Gallery.template.php
9. Delete File E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/languages/Gallery.english.php
10. Delete File E:\inetpub\vhosts\darcysharem.com\httpdocs\forum/Themes/default/languages/Gallery.english-utf8.php
There are two index.template.php under forum/Themes/default/ one ends with a tilda(~).
What am I supposed to do to fix this problem?
-
Buttons only appear on the default theme.
-
Buttons only appear on the default theme.
I'm using default theme, there is no other theme at all. I deleted the others.
-
I managed to install Gallery Lite! Currently I'm working on a Turkish-UTF language pack. By the way I want to ask something important. Do I also have to make a button for different language? I just want to use the default button for my language. What should i do?
-
Copy gallery.gif from the language folder to your language.
If its a text button copy the text from modifications.englihs.php to modifications.yourlanguage.php
-
Can you modify my Leviathan theme so the button works? Thanks
Kevin

You must get tired of helping a grateful public. So, in advance, thank you for your assistance!
I am using Scribbles11 and have tried modifying the template to show the gallery buttons. The template comes with gallery buttons, so, this really shouldn't be that tough. Then again. Could you check and see what I am doing wrong?
Thanks again!

I’m having issues getting the gallery to work on my site and I hope someone here can help me.
I loaded a fresh version of SMF 1.1.2 on my site through my fantastico
When I went to my admin page I found a blank page that said:
Unknown system variable 'NAMES'
I contacted my host and was told
This is actually an issue with the newer versions of SMF. In order to correct this, please find the following line at the bottom of your Settings.php file:
$db_character_set = 'utf8';
and comment it out so it appears as follows:
//$db_character_set = 'utf8'
Which I did and my site worked fine. The first mod I tried to install was the Gallery .
This is a screenshot of the SMF install page http://home.comcast.net/~ph4ever/installgallery1.jpg (http://home.comcast.net/~ph4ever/installgallery1.jpg)
and this is a screenshot of the page I get when I redirect after mod installation. http://home.comcast.net/~ph4ever/redirect.jpg (http://home.comcast.net/~ph4ever/redirect.jpg)
I'm attaching a text file of the error log that was generated. I did blank out my forum addy as I maintain a site for people with health issues and I did this to protect my members.
Any help that you can give me will be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Copy the text strings from themes/default/languages/modifications.english. php to any other themes/default/languages/modifications.*.php file
Thanks for your quick response.
I only have the themes/default/languages/modifications.english. php
however I have numerous themes/default/languages/modifications.*-utf8.php files. Should I do anything with them?
thanks!!
-
Yes copy the text strings from mofications.english.php to all the other modifications.*-utf8.php
-
Thanks!!!!! ;D
-
now I get this
Template Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.
You can also try refreshing this page.
-
What did you do? Did you just copy the text from one file and move it to the others.
-
Yes but I'm going to double check today and make sure I didn't make any errors. I was tired when I did it last night.
But then I was also thinking - since English is the primary language on my board couldn't I just delete all the non english language files as well?
Thanks so much for all your help - I'll let you know what happens when I check the files.
-
I am running the "Black Day" theme on my forum, can you help get the gallery button to show and fuction. Thanks,
-
I have the VampiretM theme. I finally got it uploaded, installed and created a few categories. I went into index.template.php and created the link for the top bar. It doesn't show up, but I can hover over it where its supposed to be and click on it. Conversely when I go to the permission section I see nothing of the Gallery. All that I do see is some checkboxes on the right. I checked all of them and then logged out and back in with my non-ADMIN username and it finally showed up on the link bar at the top...HOWEVER IT SHOWED UP JUST LIKE THE ADMIN SECTION. A blank spot that I can hover over and click to get to the gallery.
Thanks for any help you might offer.
-
you need to load the txt strings from default theme modifications.english to the modifications.english in the vampire theme is all.
-
what do yo mean by text strings?
-
you need to load the txt strings from default theme modifications.english to the modifications.english in the vampire theme is all.
Actually there is no language folder in the Vampire theme. I copied the modifications.english.php and pasted it in the general folder of the Vampire theme and NOTHING...
Any more specifics?

i have installed the Gallery on my Site.
In the admin center, there is a blank space, where it looks like where the button is supposed to be.
i even reverted back to the default, and still nothing.
On the top of the bar, it looks like there is a spot for it also.
I am quite the noob, and kinda need someone to hold my hand and guide me on how to change the settings.
thank you in advance for your assistance.
Also, i tried to do this with the Staff mod, and it does the same thing.
** edit *
also, i goofed up.... i accidentally hit cleared all the installed packages in Packages > Installed Packages
if tried to uninstall and reinstalling my packages, but theres now still a blank space in the admin section as described above, and in the upper bar.

Hello. It has been about 5 years since I have done any web design and I am rusty to say the least. I can not figure out how to get extra links added to my APOLLOBB theme? I would appreciate any assistance that someone is willing to give. I am doing this project for a youth organization and I want them to have a nice product when it is completed. Thanks.

I apologize if I have missed it, but I have installed SMF Gallery Lite, set permissions so guests can see and comment, but if I try to view it when not logged into my site, it blocks the gallery. Thoughts?

Hi all,
Having tried various image galleries, non of which integrated with SMF/TP I was bowled over to find Gallery Lite.
Not only was it exactly what I was looking for but it also installed without any problems, whoever has produced it is a genius !
Now, I want to purchase the Pro version but before I do I need to find out if it will install with a SMF 1.14 theme I use, "Leather" [TP version] ?
Does anyone have any idea if this is possible please ?
All I require is instructions on how to adapt it for the Lite version and presumably if it works for the Lite it will work for the Pro.
Many thanks,
Jon

For custom themes. The only item that is needed is to add a link to the gallery in the template either a button or text link depending on theme.
To upgrade from lite to pro. You would uninstall the lite edition then install the pro edition. Once the button/link is added to the custom theme you will not have to readd it again.
-
Hi Admin,
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
Now, I've spent the past day on this but without success, I seem to have two of the files you mention for the Leather theme.
One is index.php and the other is Boardindex.php, which of these should it be ?
Would it be possible, if you have the time, if I were to enclose them for you to look at could you advise me further please ?
My forum is at smf,wysifa.net [as in signature].
Many thanks,
Jon

You would acutally need to attach themes/yourcustomtheme/index.template.php file

Hi!
Im using the LITE version. My question is that my thumbnail are quite small 50x75.
Can i increase the size a bit or is this a feature only in the Pro version?
thanks
-
In the Lite Edition there is not setting you would need to change the code in Sources/Gallery.php

ahhh!!! thank you so much

I am new to this. I have recently set up a forum and I do not know how to set it up where members will be able to insert pictures and create galleries. I clicked on the download option for Gallery Lite and do have a zip file. I do not understand what to do next. I have read the tutorials. This link is my new forum:
http://thepasture.smfforfree2.com/ (http://thepasture.smfforfree2.com/)
Is there a phone number that I can call for help?
Thanks

Hi Admin SMFHacks,
How do I show the Gallery in frontpage?
I want it appear in thumbnails.
Thank you.
-
That would require custom code you would need to pull the thumbnail filename from the gallery_pic table
-
Kindly show me how pls? So that I can make it appear like this (http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/8382/gallerythumbske5.jpg)

problematic that code should work OK if you have everything set up correctly.
Your best bet for support for the code and how to get it to work in a TinyPortal block would be to post your question or issue in the topic where you got the code.
If you don't have TinyPortal installed I'm not so sure that you would be able to get that code to work the way that you wish to.

Gallery path...
Something has happened to our gallery. We're now getting a path error. Can someone show me a sample path? I thought ours was:
ftp://fotographicks.com/SDO/forum/gallery
But the error says it isn't.
-
That isn't it.
Check under Server Settings copy the sources path
And change Sources to gallery/
-
Now THAT I can do!!
Worked, thank you very much!!!
-
Well... maybe NOT!!
I'm getting reports from the users that they can upload, but only SEE the dreaded red x box.
-
Change gallery url to
http://www.fotographicks.com/SDO/forum/gallery/
-
Still the x box...
-
The error message is gone, but those people uploading upload successfully, but then get the red x...
-
Means something wrong with the gallery url not right! need to be http://www.yoursite.com/gallery/

Anybody can help? I installed this gallery mod but I can't find anywhere to adjust the settings. I've saw some screenshots where there was a link in the configuration part but there's no link in my menu. It shows that it's installed via the package manager but it's like it's not there. I've checked and it has made all the tables in db, the files seem at the right location.
I've even tried going via mysite/?action=gallery but it's just the main page of my forum I get then. I've been searching for hours now trying to use older versions, reinstalling, ... I can't find what's wrong so I hope you guys can help?
Forum is 1.1.5 and the version of the mod is 1.8.3
Kind regards.
-
I'll guess that you are using a custom theme. What is the URL to your site, too? You're likely going to have to edit your index.template.php file.
-
Yeah, I'm using a custom theme.
The site is www.dendermondeleeft.be.
If you'd be so kind to tell me what I have to edit in my index.template.php file?
-
Depending on the mods you have installed this may or may not work.
Look for something like this:
if (in_array($context['current_action'], array('search', 'admin', 'calendar', 'profile', 'mlist', 'register', 'login', 'help', 'pm')))
$current_action = $context['current_action'];
Add 'gallery', to the list, something like this:
if (in_array($context['current_action'], array('gallery', 'search', 'admin', 'calendar', 'profile', 'mlist', 'register', 'login', 'help', 'pm')))
$current_action = $context['current_action'];
The add this code to the place where you want the Gallery link to appear (slightly below where the above code is):
// The [gallery]!
echo '<li><a class="gallery' , $current_action == 'gallery' ? ' active' : '', '" href="', $scripturl, '?action=gallery">' , $txt['smfgallery_menu'] , '</a></li>';
Hope that works.
-
BTW Thanks to all who have created this wonderful addon!
Ok I have read thru here and still cant get my button to work, I erased the code I put in so we can start from scratch.
Im using the Black Rain V2 script. SMF 1.1.6 and Simple Portal 2.0.4.
Here is my index.template file attached. PLEASE NOTE its in UTF-8 my laptop broke and im only using wordpad so can someone please convert it for me to the right format!?
Thank You in advance,
Matt

for some reason that is changing my entire buttons and erasing all my banners...
-
That code should only be used on the file that you uploaded to post for that template and not the default theme.
-
I have beating my head on the wall for a couple days now :( I slowing figured out how to get the button showing in Dark Rain (should have come here FIRST! :) )
I finally got all my paths and permissions set but now I'm getting this when I click the button:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function DoToolBarStrip() in /home/content/a/g/r/*********/html/smf/Sources/Load.php(1735) : eval()'d code on line 47
Any chance you could tell me where I fat-fingered or missed something?
-
Nevermind...seems to have just went away :)

Hello SMFHacks Admin,
I'm using the EOTS_DZINE_RC2_World_of_Warcraft custom theme in SMF RC2.0 and would l like to add the button for users to upload photos. Thank you for your time.
-
For SMF 2.0 you do not have to do anything automatically adds the menu button.
If it is not appearing try the following Forum -> Maintenance -> Clear Cache
Still not working copy themes/default/languages/modifications.english.php to themes/yourtheme/languages/modifications.english.php
And then clear the cache again
-
I guess I'm confused, I expected a button for the gallery like the ones on the post menu. I cleared the forums cache as suggested and uploaded jpg of what my post menu looks like. I'm not seeing how users could upload a photo.
-
There won't be anything on a post forum.
Instead it will be on the main menu near like Home Forum Help etc.
-
Oh ok! Lightbulb went off, thanks! I see it now in the toolbar at the top of the forums. Is there any way to have it resize photos after they get uploaded or that has to be done prior by the poster? Disregard, I see its a feature of the Pro edition.

Hi, I am having the same problem as Tapsa. I installed smfgallerylite and no button showing on the forum, The theme I am using is "Adagio" and smf ver 1.11. If you could help it would be appreciated.
Thanks. :)
-
For SMF 1.1.x you have to modify the index.template.php of the theme to add a link/button to the gallery

Thanks for your swift reply. :) I really do not know what lines to edit in the Adagio index.template.php or what to put in it's place. I know how to edit it but as I said not what to change. I know this must be like poking your own eyes out with a sharp stick but me and my members really need your help. :'(
Thanks.

I'm in the process of upgrading SMF v1 to v2. Installed Gallery Lite, which had been installed on v1, I'm now getting the text that goes with the picture, but no pictures ( which are in ../css/forum/GalMbrP/ ) ... any suggestions or do you need more detail?
Realized css was a bad name - after I named the directory - argh!

Make sure your gallery path and gallery url settings are correct under Gallery Configuration

Make sure your gallery path and gallery url settings are correct under Gallery Configuration
I may regret this:
Gallery Path: /home1/fontinfo/public_html/css/forum/GalMbrP/
Gallery URL: http://fontinfo.us/public_html/css/forum/GalMbrP/
The url takes me to the folder where the pictures are located (removing the "public_html")
Configuration has no objections to the directory but what I'm seeing is the text from the DB minus the picture. I don't see it ...
