Can you attach some files that are causing the problem? Is it just jpg images or others?

You would need to edit Links.template.php best idea would do a find and replace.

Yeah you would need to add some code to auto create a category when they view their gallery page. User galleries are only listed in they have a category in their user gallery.

Currently quota is based on the primary user group. Additional groups that are applied currently do not affect the quota limits.
