Mr. Hacks...I would love to get this mod now, but as I had indicated in the other post...the way the emails get sent out (especially for big forums) just doesn't work in the present system (but should in SMF 2.0).

However, I recently added a mod (actually several months ago) called AEIOU (Automatic Email Inactive Ordinary Users) that sends out a limited amount of emails per hour, per day and per month...and does it quite nicely without any timeouts.

Here is the link:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1025

Would it be possible to look at this emailing process and incorporate it into the CURRENT Newsletter Pro...if it would work like that...I would definitely get this mod now.

Also...I did not see a screenshot of the settings for the newsletter...that might also help.

Thanks,

Wally

I agree totally rumboogy, I have just received a warning from my server about exceeding my CPU at the exact times my emails have gone out. I'd say this was an Urgent mod Hacks.

I use AEIOU and it has no such problems due to the ability to send a certain amount of emails over a determined time period so as not to overload the servers.

Thanks in anticipation

Something I will look into. Not sure how the other mod works but probably requires a cron job to the scheduled sends.

Thanks...I just know that it works very nicely...surprised the original SMF didn't have this incorporated into it.

It does work very well if it isn't too much trouble and might encourage people to buy the newsletter now instead of when SMF 2.0 Final is released.

I know you'd sell one license immediately if that were the case.  Grin

Thanks Mr. Hacks.

It's extremely good rumboogy with the one exception of the bulk mail issue, I'd recommend it

Thanks for the recommendation Rafferty. I know SMFHacks does an outstanding job on all his mods...so I am hoping maybe something might be changed soon. I do have the use for a newsletter for one of my sites (1000+ members), but it would have to be chron job type of emails...the present system just wouldn't handle it.

Thanks for the recommendation...I will be buying it, but it does me know good right now.

Thanks.

Maybe you could take a look at AEIOU Hacks:

Has the ability to set a predetermined number of emails, per hour per day

I already referenced that one Rafferty.   Grin

Actually, Mr. Hacks... I would buy 2 (TWO) licenses if you could add that feature now...I have an event coming up in 2 weeks and WOULD LOVE to be able to send out a newsletter to 1000 of my members. Any chance with something like that...

Thanks

Thank you Hacks...We DO appreciate the effort.

Maybe you shouldn't code such great mods? Shocked Shocked Shocked

Just kidding.

I am not a customer yet but would like to buy this one as my first mod brought from here.
But main thing I need is ability to send mails without time outs and all in one go.. i e. I just have to press.. "SEND" and rest is handled on its own without my intervention.

I tweaked my server .. it won't overload server even if thousands of mails are sent at once as they get queued and delivers in parts by mail server but... it is SMF which need me to sit all the time to keep PRESSING CONTINUE Smiley

.. I Hope you know..
I won't upgrade to smf 2.0 any recent as had lot of modification. Upgrading could result in disaster Tongue

Ricky...I know Hacks stays pretty busy with all of these SMF mods...I already own 3 licenses for the SMF Gallery Pro, and use the SMF Links mod. He does a great job of updating them, and I have no doubt he'll do the same with the Newsletter Mod. Like you, I don't plan on updating my forums (5 total) for quite a long time!!

So really I would assume the majority (if not all) of us wanting this mod are strictly SMF 1.1.5 users (and plan on being that way for a long time). So I am hopeful that our wait will be short and maybe it will be.

I can assure you that Hacks reads all these threads...so he's see's our impatience.  Grin

Thanks.

Mr. Hacks...if the chron job like AEIOU is not going to be in the works for the newsletter...what about the ability to add users by either a checkbox or selecting from the Memberlist? That way I could still control how many emails got sent at one time.

Thanks...I REALLY would like to get this mod now but I have to be able to select members if a chron job won't be added.

Thanks.

Ability to select each member wont' be useful if you have many thousands of member, you can still select member in current smf 1.1.5 mailing list, just search for email address and keep it or remove it !
