Hi,

I am interested in the SMF Classifieds mod, however how does it differ from SMF Bay?

Can I integrate Credit Card Payments for my website rather than PayPal so that I can be sure to get paid for the Auction, such as be able to keep the patrons credit card on file so that after the auction I can deduct my fees directly from the credit card, as well as use the credit card for registration so that I know they will have a more difficult time of ripping off anyone?

Please let me know thank you.

Not too familiar with smfbay i think they stopped work on it. SMF Classifieds information page: http://www.smfhacks.com/smf-classifieds.php and demo can be found at http://www.smfhacks.com/storedemo/

The classifieds system does not have builtin merchant account processing of credit cards only supports paypal. The main issue with that is it requires the site to be secure in order to store the information, requires encryption/ssl certificate, then different api's for each merchant accounts in order to process the sale.

PayPal does accept credit cards, e-Checks, and their own paypal funds.

But I hear that they get wrapped around the axle about some stuff and can be a bit draconian at times, for instance you cant pay for certain surplus items or parts and such and as long as its legal its really none of their business what a person is doing.
Anyway so how do I make sure that I am paid before they can sell items can I charge their account when I see the item sold?

And how can I make sure that they are a legitimate seller or not so that unsuspecting patrons don't get ripped off?

Do I have to pay to upgrade and how much is it, even though I pay for the Classifieds mod initially and is it required to upgrade or will the Classifieds mod work regardless?

Thanks.

The only time you the forum owner deals with payments is payments for listings or upgrades.

Payments between buyer and seller are between them if they want to pay by paypal, pay on pickup, pay though sites like escrow  it is up to them.
The only part that the classifieds system deals with money is payments for listings/auctions themselves.

Not much you can do for that. Buyer beware mainly. The buyer can check the sellers rating history/post history etc ask other people on the forum about their experience. If the buyer didn't get anything they can always contact their credit card company or paypal and dispute the payment.

The classifieds script is a one time fee which includes a year from date updates that are posted. After that there is a renewal fee that can be paid at anytime to bring your classifieds version to the latest.

What is the upgrade fee and do I have to upgrade, wont the SMF Classifieds work if I don't?

Is there a way to block users from using the SMF Classifieds but still being able to browse until I approve them to be able sell for example?

Would you please remove the space in my username as that somehow got in there and I didn't want that.
Thanks.

You do not have to upgrade and can continue using the classifieds mod. Renewal fee is $40 and can be paid at any time one year from now 2 years from now etc to gain access to the latest version.

The mod is membergroup permissions based. So you can permissions to view classifieds, add listings ediit listings. The best way to do what you are asking is to make another membergroup group for Approved Sellers or something along those lines. Then using that group make them allowed to add listings etc

Space removed check your email for new password since username changed.

So PayPal is the only payment method in the mod then;
is there any way to integrate another type of electronic payment method and or could you try and incorporate some other electronic form of payment in to the mod?

Thanks.

Not in the plans at the moment mainly would need a large number of people requesting it and would need to settle on one api to use

If PayPal does happen to ban a user how can they get around that, are there any working methods besides telling them not to do whatever they did the last time?
Thanks.

I don't know anything about being banned from paypal as a buyer/seller. Just follow their terms of service and be wise in your product/service descriptions if you think it will cause an issue use different words etc.

Just wanted to know in case patrons had any issues is all, I am fine and haven't had problems with PayPal so I wouldn't know.

Is the SMF Classifieds mod compatible with most SMF Themes, have you had any issues and or any problems with the SMF Classifieds mod malfunctioning, so that I know that its going to work properly as I am using SMF 1.1.11?

Works with all themes just requires one edit in the index.template.php for SMF 1.1.x to add a menu button for that theme.

Does it matter what theme that I am using when I install it and will it allow me to select which Theme that I am using and not just install it into the Default Theme?

Does not matter what theme for custom themes requires one small edit in the index.template.php that we can help for that theme to add a classifieds button.
