I'm new to running a forum and afraid I know little of PHP so I'm not sure how to handle the server crashing when sending out newsletters, both as emails and PMs. I successfully sent out some smaller groups but when trying to send out the Newbie group (approx. 2100 members) it consistently crashed. Even after dividing into smaller groups. I tried to copy and paste smaller numbers of addresses but got a error message saying they weren't recognized. Is there a better way to break up the addresses? I'm running 1.1.1. As I said, my technical knowledge of PHP is limited so can anyone tell me how I might avoid this problem? What other information do I need to provide to further describe my problem? Also I read elsewhere there was a way to see the last address sent to, but I couldn't find it. Sorry for being such a dunce.
Thank you

What do you mean by sever crashing? What happens to the site/page? Does it stop processing?  I would check your SMF's forum error log for any relevant errors as well.

What was the full error message that you received?

I actually have to do it again because I lost the full text of the error message.(It's been a couple of weeks).  But it stops sending and says  the Server failed. It appears to run for quite a while but I'm told not everyone has received the messages. Unfortunately I don't know if that totally the fault of the "Server failing" or that's the emails went to a bulk mailbox. It also fails when I send the newsletter via PM.

I will try it again and check the SMF forum error log. I'll post again if the problem continues. Thanks

I just sent out a newsletter via email by opening 2 windows and copying small sections of 'newbie' addresses and pasting them into the newsletter of the second window. They all seemed to go through. The server didn't crash but I generated a lot of error messages and they just keep piling up. All were variations of the following (either Site Administrator or Guest):

Site Administrator    Today at 09:29:10 AM
Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this IP address 66.65.111.195      Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this session ebc26ed42ca5c939028f5fedade7567d
Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this URL http://talkfaux.com/forum/index.php?action=viewErrorLog;desc
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
8: Undefined offset: 2
File: /home/talkfaux/public_html/forum/Themes/pegasus11_enhanced/index.template.php
Line: 71

All having to do with Line 71. Since I don't know enough to correct PHP could you let me know what it might be so that I can give the information to the proper person? BTW, I didn't apply any filters so I'm not sure what those mean.
Thank you so much.

Those errors look like a general theme error and should not affect the newsletter. I can take a look at the index.template.php of pegasus11_enhanced and see what's on that line.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I may have solved the newsletter problem, by copying & pasting between 2 windows. I can then break down the 2100 newbie addresses into 20% sections and mailing that way. It's a bit cumbersome and time consuming, but I think they all went through for the 1st time. I appreciate your help here.
Thanks

Another option you can try is edit Sources/ManageNews.php

Find
Code:
// How many to send at once?
$num_at_once = 60;
And lower 60 to like 20 and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you. If I could ask one more question please. Under Settings it says maximum post length. It is currently set at 255. I'm just not sure 255 what, however. Is it referring to lines? And does it refer to news or newsletters or both?

Thanks, you've been very helpful.
