No one answered this?  I suggest you go to the SMF site.  The open source availability of SMF allows it to be extremely customizable and kept up to date by many people.

SMF is the best for me, i'ts really highly customizable and the most i like is the package manager functionality.

i've tried and tested several forum script like, kunena, phpbb, mybb, fireboard, even the highly commercialized one: like vbulletin and ipboard. in the end, i end up using smf.

SMF is better for me. I use it and have rarely seen errors. Most of the ones I've seen are my own fault. It has a reputation system that can be named whatever you want e.g. rep, karma, peer dollars (you just type whatever you want to be displayed in a box in the admin area). SMF runs great smoothly as far as I can see, so I see no reason not to use it over PhpBB.

My knowledge of coding etc is VERY basic. I have used PHPBB in the past and others. IIRC I had a crash (probably my own fault  Undecided ) with a PHPBB forum and I couldnt find anyone to help me out of the mess.
So I started a fresh with SMF, converting a fairly recent Db download (I backup a LOT more often now!). I have had issues, again usually of my own making, since changing to SMF but I have always found someone to help get back on track.
Also I find the SMF mod installing a lot easier.

SMF seems a little easier to navigate and learn. Also, I had a much easier time working with the settings and getting the spam under control.

I tried some other software before. SMF is the best for my needs.
