I setup a new Category and then I setup a Sub-Category on that new Category.

I don't want any of the members to be able to see or access the new Category yet, so on permissions on both the main Category and the Sub-Category I just setup I then Denied all permissions for all Regular Members, which covers all member groups on the forum.

I do though want one member group, in this case Special Contributors to be able to see and add pictures to the new Category and Sub Category. So I added permissions on both the new main Category and Sub-Category I created to allow the Special Contributor member group to add pictures to the new category.

It seems though that Gallery Pro still wont permit the member group to add pictures to the Sub-Category.

Do I need to do something differently in order for this special member group to have picture adding capabilities on this Category?

Cheers...

Permissions are not inherited to categories underneath it. Permissions need to be added to each category.

To add a permission to a subcategory. Go inside main category click on category permissions then add permissions to subcategory form there.

Thanks. I am a bit confused. So you are saying that I should set the permissions on the parent category only and then remove the permissions from the sub category for it to work right?

Thank you. I understand now. So I have to deny the permission globally on the parent Category, but then if I add the permission back to the Sub-Category for a specific member group. then it will allow that member group access to the sub category. It is a big confusing, but it works. Thanks.

I am sorry, I made a mistake. It does not work. This is what I did, but as I mentioned it doesn't work:

1 - In the main category I denied all permissions to all group members for Regular Members and Guests.

2 - In the sub-category I allowed all permissions for the member group Special Contributors.

The problem still is that Special Contributors can not add any pictures to the sub category still.

Below shows how I set the permissions for both the Category and Sub-Category. I set the same permissions for both.

Even though Special Contributor is permitted to add pictures to both categories, Special Contributors are not able to add photos to the Sub-Category. The option does not show on the drop down menu of categories when adding a photo. They can only add a photo to the main Category.

The only way it is possible for them to add pictures to this Sub-Category is if in the main Member Group permissions I allow them Admin access to SMF Gallery in general. But if I do this then can also delete pictures and it gives them too much control, so it is not a good solution.

Please advise a solution. Thanks.

not sure if you are having the same problem as me but the gallery only allows the user to upload pictures if they have the permission in their primary member group and not any of their secondary ones even if you set the gallery for the secondary group to allow posting.

eg if fred is a regular member for the primary group and a specialgallery user as a secondary group and you have a gallery that only allows specialgallery users to post he would be unable to do so. If you make fred a specialgallery user as primary and registered as secondary he will then be able to upload to the gallery and still browse the forum as a regular user even if specialgallery has no forum permissions set.

now I am not sure if this is normal behavior or a bug, but that is what has happening on my gallery as I have just had a major headache changing loads of permissions about and will be looking to see if there is a way of allowing the secondry groups to post as will then do as I wanted it too.

Anyway good luck

What SMF version? And just want to be sure this is when you are using category level permissions?
