Next and previous image always require rescrolling to centre the image. That is very irritating for many of our viewers. I've tried with the header logo removed and the header shrink selected and it still required re-centering. I know the slideshow function does the job but is there any way to have the same auto centering work on the main view?

You would need have medium sized images enabled then set a limit for the max height/width of the images to make it smaller for the page.
Or change the display max height/width limits to a constant size so they will not have to scroll.
