In using iB for many, many years we had a gallery hack quite similar to PRO except one nice feature which helped out the admins was that upon user registration their gallery was created automatically via the DB.

In doing so it made it quite easy for them to start uploading images as the majority are not user savy and are afraid to create their own thus this simple process removed their fear leading to greater participation.

Would this be possible ? Even if I just need to hack my own I would like this feature although I am sure other site administrators would find it quite simple.

TIA,

Isn't this alredy there? On my board, all the users have to do is create at least one category and their gallery isupand running.

Yes, you are correct, however, the mere fact that they have to "create at least one category" is the issue. Not sure what sector of the population your dealing with but unless PC oriented the majority have an issue with "creating one category and their gallery is up and running" !

If it was that easy there wouldn't be so many people having to make tutorials on how the gallery functions not to mention the endless emails I get with regards to "how do I XXX" in the gallery or "how do I get started in the gallery".

If the gallery automatically created a category and gallery for the user it would remedy 99% of these issues. Even if the category was just "Username's photos" or something similiar.

Gotcha. I tought you were saying the admins had to create the gallery.

We're actually putting together a little tutorial on "how to use your personal gallery" because we have a similar issue.

No, that's the problem ! I hate having to spend hours upon hours creating categories for users to get them started !

Yeah you would need to add some code to auto create a category when they view their gallery page. User galleries are only listed in they have a category in their user gallery.

Could that code auto create a category upon registration ? If so would you happen to have that ?

It would be nice if this was a feature that could be switched on or off by admin - but yes it would be good

I also like the 'automatically create user galleries' function too!

I would see that as a great feature as well, something like a default category created automatically so users can upload pictures straight away

Was the best function added to my iB gallery. My users are non existent in my gallery as they find it way too confusing to create the gallery let alone upload photos.
