"Next make the gallery directory writable"

Hi All 

Probably a dumb question, certainly a newbie question 

I need to "make the gallery directory writable", according to the instructions.

I will do this using FTP, can somebody advise what the actual folder permissions would be to do this please ? Do i need to do anything else ? I have given relevant groups permissions to post within the forum.

On linux servers I would do either 755 or 644
