Title: SMF Trader System Released
Post by: SMFHacks on May 16, 2006, 07:59:18 pm
Today I released the first version of the SMF Trader System.

A trader system for SMF. Trader count is displayed under each member's name in a topic. Also trader information is displayed in their profile.

Member's of you forum can rate other members as either a buyer, seller, or a trade deal.

Wow at last!
There have been quite a few of people waiting for something like this.
I even recall something about money donated to the author of such a script.

OK on to some comments now.
I could not get the reporting to work getting an error of "Failed to report trader rating comment."
However I am working on some heavily modded theme and under joomla bridge so the fault is most probably at my end.

Anonther issue is that some color-coding needs to be applied.
I changed part of the language file text like this:
Code: [Select]
$txt['smftrader_positivefeedback'] = '<span style="color: #006400;">Positive Feedback: </span>'; instead of
Code: [Select]
$txt['smftrader_positivefeedback'] = 'Positive Feedback: '; so it became green and so on for the other 2.
But I bet you could do better than that  :D

Also imo it would be better to output the trade info under the star-mod rating.
And instead of/in adidtion to the Trade #, show Positive Feedback % thus giving users a clearer picture.

I put this together over two days.. I will take a look at those suggestions and add them to the next release.
Any feedback or suggestions would be great so now how to improve it.

Here's some threads where people were asking for it:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=42366.0;all
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=22505.0;all
You haven't announced it yet over there, have you? It will make a lot of peeps happy.

One improvement you might want to make is give admins some rights.
* Most importantly about editing feedback, in case it is malicious or something you know. (sorry if that's already included, as I said I can't get the reporting to work).
* Also it would be a good idea if you could have an option of "moderator approval required" or not. So that admin or moderators manually check the genuineness of the feedback before it is published.

On a minor scale, one more cosmetic improvement I'd like to see is the percentage "%" sign be next to the number itself, rather than the label. I believe it would make more sense there.

I will see what I can do.
I am still waiting for this mod to be approved at simplemachines and that process takes a while. I have a couple of my small mods approved but the larger ones will take time.

Great idea for a mod.

I will check it out but will probably wait for a bit to make sure all the bugs are worked out.

Way to go!!!

Released a new version.
Added permissions to submit feedback and delete feedback.
Feedback can now be deleted.
Reports for bad feedback are more detailed now.

Also did a couple other template suggestions from the previous posts.

There isn't much to edit and can easly be applied to other themes.
You have permissions that you can set for users. For leaving feedback, deleteing feedback etc.

Main users is for a website where members sell items to each other.

Listed under the users name in the topic display is the trader rating. Click the users rating to see their rating information from their they can submit feedback.

Also located under the user's profile and they can submit feedback from their as well.

Yeah its a rating system for members. For members to rate items that they sell to each other.

Is there anyway to make an admin/moderator approve a feedback before it's left on a members' account?

This trader system can be easily abused if the feedback's aren't approved.

Not currently. Maybe later on in the future.

Not currently. Maybe later on in the future.

Thanks for the reply back, but I don't see it really being a use without having the feedback approved. The system would be abused too much.

I like this mod  ;D

And  wondered if theres a way to remove the option  to rate certain members from the rateings like mods and etc..  especially those who won't trade buy or sell anything , seems like it would curb the likelyness of abuse of this idea.

There is a permission system which you can toggle options for groups
You would use the "Allow submit feedback" permission.

Ok, I have installed the mod with:
SMF 1.1 RC3 | SMF 2001-2006 / TinyPortal v0.9.6beta

I have read all the threads here related to this Trader System mod but still am at a loss. The only trace of its installation is in the permissions area and other than that I cannot see its presence anywhere.

Is there any active web site where I can go and actually see its implementation? I have visited all of the few that are listed in the threads but only one is actually still on line and will not allow even a new registered user (I registered) to access that part of the forum.

I would like to add this to my forum, which is directed to a medium size university and I am planning to add on a book trading or exchange board.

Thanks I hope for any help.

Mods only install on the default theme.
Mod contains permissions.

Trader Count is displayed in their profile and under topic view below their name.

You would rate someone by going to their profile.

Thanks very much. With your pointers I was able to locate everything I needed.
All is installed and running as should be.
Works and looks great. :)
One question: what is Topic URL: ideally supposed to have entered into it?
Couldn't the board name function just as well?

The idea is that you would have a board that sell items. In that board you would have topics from members who are selling items. The person would then place the topic id in that textbox.
