Title: Feature request
Post by: TeeJay on December 17, 2010, 02:29:25 am
Is it possible that the method of adding a listing will be simplified
I've found the end users at my site can be pretty daft and as a result they just don't use the system

I'd suggest as well as the "Classifieds" button at the top, perhaps an "Add Listing" button which then leads to each step in turn, i.e.

Add Listing > Classified or Auction > Select category (from a drop down list)

Most people cannot see that they have to go into a category BEFORE they can see the add listing/add auction buttons, I'm certain that showing those buttons first and then selecting a category after would result in much more use of the system

In the main menu? Or on the submenu on the main classifieds index?

yes i agree, some people dont go into categories and just add immediately, causing them confusion when they try to look for the listing in the categories. also, a location filter or control is a great idea since it becomes very scalable for some like me who would want people to know exactly where the item can be purchased since a lot of them would rather want something they could just drive to instead of trusting some stranger ship them items, it gives buyers a choice

the location filter makes the program very scalable, imagine i have to recreate all cats and subcats for teh same categories just because some locations are just not acceptable, trustworthy or simply inaccessible to others. please add the location filter to save me tons of typing and give users a lot less work finding stuff in locations they want.

In the main menu? Or on the submenu on the main classifieds index?

In the main menu....

Here's the problem
I have the system automatically create a post in a forum category, users often go to the forum post then try to find where to list their own classified/auction
Of course they can't from there and even if they do figure out that they need to click on the "Classifieds" button at the top (main menu) they still don't figure that they need to click on one of the categories before they can see the "add listing" or "add auction" buttons

I thought perhaps a simple "Add Classified" in the main menu of the forum and then questions from there to guide them would be better, i.e. "Add Classified" > Auction or Classified > Select Category (from drop down list)

Maybe instead of the "Auction or Classified" selection you could have a radio check box inside the add listing form based on whether their choice of category supported both or not
So it could be
"Add Classified" > Select Category (from drop down) then a radio check button for Classified/Auction (dependant on what type/s are available for the selected catgory)

i second the motion to that.

additional feature request you might add to the next version release

a drop down menu for categories and sub-categories.

a drop down menu for classifieds button (button located at home | search | help |etc.),

a more convenient way to add listings. maybe one link in the classifieds drop down menu button, and in the following example:

Search  | Post An Ad |  Unviewed  |  MyBids  |  MyListings |  MyCredits

a bookmarking tool, a separate bookmarks for topic and a separate bookmark for listings & auctions.

if you could incorporate these features for a pay-for-mode project

then contact me.
