Title: "Hot or Not" Mod
Post by: frustrated on June 26, 2011, 09:13:37 pm
I know there have been previous things like this, but I can't find one close to what I'm thinking of, so I figured I'd toss this out here...

I'd like to see an SMF hack that does this:

People with proper permissions can add a listing to the PUBLIC RATING list. I call it that for lack of a better term.

They'd be able to upload an image, give some description text, etc. and Submit.

This could be an object, a movie, a band, a person - anything. (The forum owner could decide to tell people what they can or can't rate, like if you're on a movie forum and only movies are allowed.)

Once uploaded, the listing would be visible in a special PUBLIC RATING area of the forum.

They could then RATE the listing just like you can rate store items with the SMF store hack.

The difference would be that the ranking are would ideally be set up something like this:

(Negative Text) 1star 2star 3star 4star 5star (Positive Text)

Admins of the forum could ideally set how many stars are allowed and what graphics to use for them.

Here's an example of what someone might end up with:

---

(LISTING'S IMAGE)

SUCKS!  >:(  :(  :-\  :)  :D ROCKS!

---

In the above, you'd naturally click the smiley face that represented how you felt about the item.

Here's the most important part, however:

There would HAVE TO be SSI associated with this, with options like:

1.) The ability to display the last X items added to the list.
2.) The ability to display the highest rated items in the last X days.*
3.) The ability to display the lowest rated items in the last X days.*
4.) The ability to display the one newest item WITH voting option.
5.) Any of the above, but randomized. IE: Random 5 low rated.

*If there are now items rated within that last X days, it should simply display the highest or lowest rated - that way the site isn't broken because there's no info to call.

Ideally an admin could set things like...

* One vote on an item per user?
* If not, how many votes per day?
* Keep voting on an item open for X days, or forever?

Etc.

That's about it!

If only I had another 24 hours in a day I could knock it out.

New suggestion: Please code a real life hack that allows us to add hours to the day.
