Title: Member groups are not responding to permissions setting
Post by: dan42101 on January 15, 2014, 08:34:21 am
Hello,
I must be missing something obvious... (of course I am ::))  The ads (adsense) are working fine, in all the places I want for now.  I have some paid subscribers come on board that I want to: I have a member group that changes nothing but display a special "star.gif" for donors, and I have 2 other groups named for the donation levels.

The problem is the permission area of Ad seller pro, does not respond to unchecking the box to display the ad locations, apparently for any member group I have except the Admin group.  I have read everything I can find on it, but there just does not seem to be much about this.

BTW the other 2 groups are hidden, IDK if that has anything to do with it...  I could certainly make them all visible and make more star.gifs

TIA..!

Now those membergroups they are normal member groups right and not post based groups?

Now are you changing the permissions under each ad location? Under AdSeller Pro -> Ad Locations
Then edit the location and remove the membergoups you do not want to see the ad.

Correct on both counts.

The member groups are regular and do no inherit permissions.  The groups are Protected (Only administrators can manage and assign).  Also they are invisible.

I have the boxes unchecked beside the locations I don't want them to show, and I log out as admin and back in as a member of that group and the ads still show.

If I am logged in as Admin and uncheck a location for that member group the ads don't show, as per proper behavior...

Is that their primary group? Are they part of any subgroups.

They are in several.  So I guess I have them in a group that is still set to see the ads...

I need them all in the visible group that I have assigned a different icon, and  that should be their primary group then?

So I would set that group to not see any ads and then set each of the other 2 groups to see the different proper ad locations..?

The system is based on their primary member group if that group has ads they will see ads otherwise they will not.

Thanks.  I think you have gotten me headed in the right direction on it.  I will have to carry on with it tomorrow...  Will let you know how it turns out.

Is there a definitive tutorial on membergroups..?

Regular group, post count group, primary group --sheesh.

I am thinking I should take the donors out of these other groups...

All I want to accomplish is have donors in one group that does nothing other than displays a badge of recognition, and also have them in one of 2 other groups that shows them either ads on the home page and no where else or shows them no ads at all.

 ???

I did get your pm just been busy.

Yeah with SMF there is a lot of types of membergroups. You have primary membergroup then you can also have a number of secondary grups
And any of those groups can inherit permissions of other groups.
And last you have post based groups.

At the moment adseller pro goes off the primary group only.

It's a tricky problem to solve when one group has ads but another group has no ads what decides to be the winner.
