Title: Updates?
Post by: FireDitto on July 20, 2014, 09:31:01 pm
Hi!

My updates license ran out, and I don't wanna repurchase it if I don't particularly need it for updates, you know? (finances are tight at the moment) so what I was wondering was a couple of things:

1. What is the latest running update of the Menu Editor?
2. Have you implemented the adding of permissions from the usergroup creation? I added three new usergroups and adding them all to every menu option is a royal pain and I know it was suggested, so I was wondering if it had been added or was going to be added in the near future.

Thank you!

Honestly I've not had time to shoot out any updates yet. But after I complete another big (private) SMF modification that I'm working on, this will go on one of my burners to work on in some of my free time (I do have one update ready, but not released.)

I don't understand what the second feature you're wanting is? You're wanting to be able to select which menu items a group can see, when modifying the group? That's not going to happen.

Funny, you not only said it was a good idea when it was originally suggested, but also said it would be implemented.

It is a shocking pain in the arse having to manually update every menu item to include a new membergroup, when it could be linked to be included on the Membergroup Permissions page. It is easily the biggest and worse drawback of the mod itself; if you don't have every membergroup set up prior to installing the menu mod, you are in for one hell of a headache to edit them in, and setting up membergroups to "inherit" the permissions of another membergroup don't work.

I strongly suggest you reconsider doing the permissions option, because as I said, it's a massive drawback of the mod if you ever make changes or add to the membergroups.

It might be nice, but it's at the very least two more modifications to SMF's files.

I can think of quite a few things that are actual features that could be added - such as support to show or hide certain buttons on certain actions, or boards, and so forth. I have a whole list of updates to implement actually, most are features, but a big fix will be to redo the whole caching functionality so it doesn't hinder updates and mod installs - it'll add a section to the package manager which is going to be a big update.

While it would be nice, I can't see myself spending the time to add this feature unless enough people wanted it, or someone paid me to add it for my time.
