Title: Moving over to https
Post by: shuban on January 09, 2017, 11:47:16 pm
Got a scary message from Google Webmasters saying that they will place a notice on every page where a login is found.

Does this mean all SMF forums will need to be in https since SMF by default contains a login form in the index?

That's awful.
I might have to look into selling SSL certs now.

A lot of adnetworks don't support SSL and generally I see less clicks on SSL sites.

This is what happens when we allow major companies to control how the internet is run, they make decisions like these that always have webmasters spending and jumping through hoops

yeah harder for new webmasters to enter. I have about 15 ssl sites
I always buy 3 year certs so i don't have to release them so often.
It sucks cause unlike domains you manually you have install them on your sites.

Also SSL is normally setup wrong by most people. I go by https://www.ssllabs.com/ then checks SSL and go for A grade.

It's good that we have a free alternative if we're tight on the budget. I personally installed Let's Encrypt on few of my websites and it's working fine. It also can be setup to auto-renew the cert so you'll not have to remember avery three months to renew the certs.
