Title: use on a sandbox pre-production?
Post by: drewactual on March 18, 2017, 11:46:35 am
Sir's of SMF hack's,  8)

I'm very interested in this package, but I have a concern.  I run 2.0.13 in a highly customized form (you can see it at http://www.cfb51.com) which has a sandbox pre-production site @ 12finalflares.com.  I test everything thoroughly in the sandbox before moving it over to the production site.

If i purchase this suite, can i test it on the non-production (still live hosted) site and then move it?

I am concerned because the ad management package downloaded from smfmods broke the system even on manual install.  I'm sure it can be recovered, and most likely because i pasted the manual code prior to or post \', \;, or \}.... I just need to be certain that this thing works first, and so i don't have to clear my schedule and send in coffee to get it back up afterward.

~break~

on anojher note- the site I operate is college football centric. each parent board (conference) has 8+ children boards  (teams).  I want to target both.  in example, I'd like to place an add on a parent (conference) such as tickets to games, where each individual team board (child board) I'd like to list things specific to that school such as caps and tshirts/jerseys... is this possible using the platform as it is delivered?  (my understanding is that it is, and by inserting the board's # in the appropriate place, just looking for confirmation)....

thanks!

standing by plastic in paw......

Yes you can use any of products on a non production/test environment first.

AdSeller Pro does allow you place/target ads in a specific board. Just check which boards you want the ad to appear on.

sweetness...

one more question:  are there any known mod's this mod doesn't play nicely with?

I don't know/haven't heard of reports. It does require edits to template files for custom themes.

I can handle that.... and I've confidence knowing i can use it in a live hosted sandbox site first to discover any bugs.

many thanks, Sir!

so.....what's the chances (in terms of cost) for me to send you the required files that need changing for this package not to break the page?  I know it can work, I'm just not so confident anymore I'm the one to make it work......

It shouldn't break anything. You can upload the package to
http://smfhacks.com/smf-package-parser.html

And that will give you the custom theme edits needed.

Ok can you explain what isn't working right? Also check out our getting started guide http://www.smfhacks.com/index.php/topic,4270.0.html

give me a few to use the parser and I'll likely be good... I think I planted the file in 'sources.php' wrong... it may be that simple.

you guys friggin' ROCK!!!

just so you know, there are some incorrectly worded "find xxx" in the manual install which slowed the process down, but not a show stopper.

this thing works just as advertised- i've got a long way to go but i've already plopped precisely targeted ad's in the forum, and will continue that plan.... if anyone is interested, check out (http://www.cfb51.com) the Michigan or Tennessee TEAM board (children to their respective parent, the Big Ten and SEC conferences respectfully).... ALL of them will have this kind of targeted placement (at the base of the message index) while leaving me all kinds of other places to sell ads while maintaining the integrity and appeal of the board....

many thanks!!!
