Title: About Watermark Options
Post by: ajac63 on May 25, 2019, 06:36:39 am
At risk of being dense here, what exactly does the watermark option or options do when enabled?

It's adds text/or a mini image  to a picture  that is uploaded to a listing. For most people not needed. Mainly used if you have fear of someone else taking your listings/auctions pictures for use on another site.

I see, thank you.  What about the Watermark Image Path?  How is one supposed to know which category a member will place a listing in?

The watermark image path is the full file path to the image on your server such as /username/public_html/images/watermark.jpg
Can be a jpg or png file

The member decides what category they will place listing in. They click the category then click on add listing to add to that category.

Yes, I realise that it's the member that decides which category, but my confusion comes from how the options under Watermark Settings is presented.  I had the impression that both a watermark image (..path) and watermark text was required.  Now my impression is it's either one will do, but still not 100% certain to be honest...

Yes, either water mark text or water mark image. You do not have to do both. I don't recommend it

Great, in that case I'll go for watermark text.

So, just to make sure here, the watermark text will be applied to all images in the images directory under public_html?

What about category images that are in a different folder?  How could one apply watermark text to those.

It only applies to newly uploaded images that a user adds to a listing. Does not affect category level images at all.

Well, I've listed an example ad to give members an idea of what one would look like and have added an image, but the watermark text that I've specified under Watermark Settings doesn't show.

Can you take a screenshot of your watermark settings and post here.

Many thanks, see attached.  I left Watermark Image Path blank as I'm not using an image.

I did a test on my site seems to work. Note that color is set to White #FFFFF so if your image has a white bottom you won't see it.

If you still don't see anything upload another picture to a classifieds that check your forums error log to see if there is anything there related.

OK, in that case I'll change the hex value from white to probably light grey, then check error log if still not showing.

OK, I checked the one and only image that I initially added to the example listing but the watermark wasn't showing, even though the bottom-right of the image isn't all white.
Anyway, I then changed the hex value for a bolder colour, saved the settings and then added another image to the listing.  The watermark shows clearly on the new image, but still not showing on the first one.
What happens then if just one image is added to a listing?

The watermark will appear on any newly added images after you have enabled that setting.
If you upload a single image to a listing it will appear on that image.

I see... No disrespect, but did you actually read what I said?

Yes, i did.

The watermark is added to every image that is uploaded to the system. If is before the watermark was enabled then it won't have a watermark.

I meant that I checked the one and only image that I added to the example listing after enabling the watermark text.  The watermark wasn't showing, but it was showing on a second image that I uploaded or added.  This is simply how it was, OK.
Anyway, I've just deleted the original image and then simply re-uploaded it and the watermark is now showing, so now everything's fine.
