Title: How to I copy SMF Gallery to a new host?
Post by: Alan on February 19, 2021, 11:51:30 am
I'm moving my SMF to a new host.

I've converted from Aeva and all worked fine. Then I copied the Gallery Folder and and all tables in the Db with gallery in the name to my new host but I can't see any of the images previously in the gallery.

It is reporting the correct number of images and if I open the Member Galleries I can see all of the image details but when I click on any of them the actual image is not shown.

Hoping someone can help.

You probably need to adjust the gallery path and gallery url under admin -> gallery configuration to the new paths/url

Thanks for the reply.

I checked the gallery path and gallery URL and both look OK

Do you have a link to a broken image page for me to check out?

I am running a test setup on my laptop using xampp . I am trying to to get everything running and ironing out the wrinkles before I do a live move. So unfortunately I don't have a publicly accessible link for you

I would then try to right click on the broken image and see the url or if you can open developer tools in your browser and check the network tab to see if there are broken images and what url they are using.

Hello,

I have now setup a site that you can access.

The original site that Works (except thumbnails) is http://www.veraplayafriends.com/index.php?action=gallery (http://www.veraplayafriends.com/index.php?action=gallery)

The site that I'm trying to copy to is http://smf-vpf.byethost14.com/index.php?action=gallery (http://smf-vpf.byethost14.com/index.php?action=gallery) If you click on any image it doesn't load.

I know the thumbnails aren't working on both sites, that's my next problem to look at.

If you need admin access please let me know.

Thanks

It's saying the files don't exist. Make sure you upload the complete gallery folder
Example
http://smf-vpf.byethost14.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=242
Image file:
http://smf-vpf.byethost14.com/gallery/albums/Bahia_de_Vera/Dir_1/main_242.jpeg

The thumbnails require GD installed check your forum's error log and your admin -> support and credits link

I understand what you are saying as the folder http://smf-vpf.byethost14.com/gallery/albums is empty.

I think I need to go back to the beginning.
The original site (veraplayafriends.com) that I ma trying to copy from originally had Aeva but I recently installed SMF Gallery and converted the Aeva images. That now works OK and display all of the images in SMF Gallery. However if you open an image then use the browser tools (Chrome, right click, inspect) you can see that the url is of the image is http://www.veraplayafriends.com/gallery/albums/Bahia_de_Vera/Dir_1/main_242.jpeg. Now this is the bit I can't understand because that folder http://www.veraplayafriends.com/gallery/albums is also empty so how is the image working?

There is a folder from Aeva /mgal_data/albums that does contain sub-folders like /mgal_data/albums/Bahia_de_Vera/Dir_1/ and those folders do contain the images but not woth names like main_242.jpeg but in the format like 783_C9CD2624-751B-4574-928E-B3B2FB3B774B_jpeg336972b68de10a97d1b6c99250a65f7d_extjpeg.

So how is the correct image being displayed on the original site? and what did the SMF Gallery do to those images when I ran the conversion?

AS for GD I will need to contact my hosting support, but it is not as important as being able to display the main images.

Gallery pro conversion from Aeva kept the foldernames the same  and rebuilt them under the gallery folder.   The  image filenames themselves are decoded to readable/usable filenames.

I checked the original site and the main images seem to load http://www.veraplayafriends.com/gallery/albums/Vera_September_2017/Dir_1/main_232.JPG  which saves the files exist there.

The thumbnails seem to be in an old format of thumb_albums as the folder name though  Did they ever work on the main site under Gallery Pro? If not you would have to run  rebuild thumbnails option under settings.

http://www.veraplayafriends.com/gallery/albums  won't show in the browser due to .htaccess rules.  The files should exist in the file system though if you browse via a control panel.

When I look at the folder  http://www.veraplayafriends.com/gallery/albums via ftp or the control panel I can see that it is empty. So I don't see how the images are being displayed.

The thumbnails have never worked with SMF Gallery. I'm not too bothered about thumbnails at this point but I would really like my members to be able to see their stored images.

Problem solved.

Here's how I did it.
Reinstalled Aeva - a little tricky as it isn't available anymore but I found tha last version I had installed from my backups
Uninstalled SMF Gallery and deleted all gallery tables from the Db
Reinstalled SMF Gallery
Ran Aeva conversion in SMF Gallery

All now working including thumbnails

Thanks for your help

Glad you got it working! Still not sure how files worked if they didn't exist in folder but all good.
