Ok, tried the upgrade and that went through but the settings page shows the current version as the beta and latest version as 2.3.0  
Suppose I'll look at the files and see what *is* actually installed.  

Also did a clean install of SMF 2.0 rc4 on a separate database and directory, found I manually had to add the temp dir in the packages directory. Added the DL 2.3.0 to packages and used package manager to install.
That fails the first time because the temp dir gets deleted somehow. Recreated and voila, install continues.
Install skips the modification of the language files (modification.english & who.english), also several files does not get installed and the menus does not change but installation seems ok and the redirect after installation just takes you to the admin section not the DL interface. Very weird indeed. Must be some 2008 server oddball stuff.

Will keep playing around and post back.

Had some weird permission problems when trying to install latest dl system (via package manager). I got those permissions fixed, system seems to install ok but got 500 - Server Error when accessing the DL system.
Checked permissions again and then uninstalled 2.3.0 and reverted back to 2.0 beta 2.2 - that works.
Tried installing 2.3.0 again again 500 - server error. uninstalled again and reverted back to beta version which again works.
Using Server 2008 and IIS7. Have had no prior problems with previous version upgrades and installs.
No other SMF mods are installed.
  Any ideas?

Just purchased 1.0.15 pro, installed, but shows 1.0.14 in SMF 2.0 RC3 and of course shows "Your downloads system version is not up to date!"

What's up with that?
