It may be possible to do thumnail generation if instead of doing just a straight upload, the mod converts to flash. I know there are tools you can integrate into websites to do this, so maybe a future version of this mod can take advantage of one of these tools and convert to flash, this would allow for thumbnails and probably a wider rang of video formats .
Just a thought

Well I've installed the mod on my client's site and it works great. It was very easy to change the PHP.ini on the hosted environment I am using (godaddy) so that was not a problem.
The mod works just as expected.
It hink for the future of the mod there are a few minor and one major change that I'd like to see.
Minor - When you upload a video, the text should change so that wherever it says "picture" it should say video when viewing it.
Minor - It should also get rid of the linking codes at the bottom (since they are all for pictures) if the settings are set to show them.
Major - Auto thumbnail generation. This may be easier if the mod converts the uploaded video to a flash player... for right now though, the generic icon is good. Not something critical.
I really like this mod and I certainly don't mind paying for it at all, I hope more is done with it in the future.

Wow,
I make one suggestion and like a week later there's already a mod... this is GREAT!!!
I'm going to use this on my client's website immediately. I was going to link SMF with Coppermine because he needed video support but this is MUCH better!
Thanks

When I say adding video, I mean users uploading video like they do pictures, not linking to youtube or other sites.
The only thing I've seen that does that is Coppermine, but that's a seperate product. SMFGallery is a great mod and I'd love to see it expand to the ability to have videos uploaded.
I don't mean true "streaming" video. It could start off small, like the ability to upload videos that can be embedded in the site like wmv mpg, etc. You'd want to be able to limit the size etc.
Then maybe later move to something like youtube and other ssites that convert the video to a flash player.

Have you ever thought about extending the gallery to support video as well.
SMF Gallery Pro would be a force to be reckoned with if you could use it to upload pictures and video. Right now there is no product that I've seen that allows you to have a video gallery in SMF.

My users have additional member groups in addition to their primary position. I'm adjusting the gallery script to compensate for this so that the quotas for those additional groups will be taken into consideration
Basically, whichever group has the highest quota wins.
This should probably be taken into consideration in the next version though for other people in the same situation.
Also, I rigged the gallery script to add to the post count even if the "post to a forum" option isn't turned on. so this should be pretty easy to add to (I did it in the code so that it always works as long as the picture isn't already being posted to a forum but there should probably be an admin setting to turn this on or off).

Hi,
I've noticed that when you're browsing through a catagory, you can set the gallery to show all sorts of information about the picture (rating, views, filesize, etc) but there is no option to show the title of the picture.
Could this be an option?

If a member is a part of a group that has a quota but it isn't their primary group, does the quota still apply.
Also if a member is part of multiple groups with quota (i.e. regular members and another group), which quota applies?

Could you make it so that the admin can make a list of predefined tags (or even just predefined keywords). Then the user could automatically add them to their picture.
If there are predefined tags, then it makes it easier to search for a picture or even search for pictures with the same tags as the one you're looking for. Like if you have the tag "dog" and the user adds that to their picture, when someone comes to to view that picture, they could click on the "dog" tag and see all of the other pictures with that tag.
I think this would be a nice additional feature as a lot of times keywords aren't as helpful to search by because everyone may put a different variation.
Tags would make it easier to search for pictures and find similar pictures.
(Maybe even have tags that only admins can add to pictures... just a thought)

I'm actually willing to pay for this mod if you think it can be done (or something similar) quickly.
I really need a way to do something like this so if you think it's possible please let me know and like i said, I will pay to have it done.

What i'm really trying to do is make it so that I can have contests in the gallery. So basically create a contest/challenge called "Character Contest" and then when people upload pictures, they can select if they want to submit it to a contest (maybe a drop down... but it would be better if they could pick more than one). Or... maybe there is a better ways such as they click on a link that takes them to a list of currently open contests and then they can select pictures that they've submitted to add to the contest. That would probably make it easier to submit multiple pictures to one contest and submit the same picture to multiple contests.
Then the admin can easily go in and see what pictures have been submitted to a particular contest/challenge.
I think this would probably be good as a mod. Some added features would be the ability to set an end submission date so that people are automatically prevented from adding pictures after that date (optional of course in case it's open ended) and the ability to specify winners.
What do you think?

Hmmm...
There's an option to add a post to a board every time a picture is posted... I may be able to use that to do what I want with adding post counts.
I've tested it and it looks like i can set the board to one that no one can see and it will still add the post and up the post count for that user.
Only problem would be how large that board would get but I can just use the maintainance feature to clean out the board every month or so.
That will definitely work for now, though it would still be nice to have a feature so it could be done easier.

I just thought about this. You could do what coppermine does for multiple categories.
You have to select a unique one-word keyword for each category you create. When people upload images, they can add keywords (comma seperated I think) and if they put in a keyword that matches a category keyword, the picture appears in that category. To make it easy on users there is a link when you add a pictures that gives you a list of category keywords.
Hope that helps.

Ah thanks for the heads up on the profile mod.
As far as the multiple categories... that's really like a luxury... the thing that I would like to see more than anything is the ability to increase post counts based on adding images and comments. Also I'd really like to be able to set quota's based on post groups. Right now I only see regular member groups. Basically I'd like to be able to increase their quota based on how active their are in the site.
Thanks.

These are the features I'd like to see in this gallery
There should be links in a member's profile. If it's your profile, there should be some links in the side bar to upload pictures and manage personal gallery (if they have one). For others viewing the member profile, there should be links on the page to show images that person has posted or show that person's gallery.
I'd like to see the ability to add one picture to multiple categories (might be easier said than done).
I'd really like the option to allow posting an image or a comment to raise that user's post count. This could be an option that could be turned on or off based on the admin's prefference. A bonus would be if you could set this per category.
I was looking at the quota manager. First of all, I can't really tell if it's setting the quota for the entire group or for individual users in that group. Does the entire member group have a single quota or does every individual user in that group have a quota. I hope it's the latter but if not, that should change because it's more useful for each user to have a quota. Also, the post groups aren't listed. It would definitely be awesome to be able to limit a person's quota by their post group.
In addition, it would be nice if there was the option to only quota a person's personal albums... basically allowing them to post as much as they want in the public albums but have a limit in their personal albums.
That's pretty much it. I do think it's an awesome script. If I could choose one request I'd like to see first, it would definitely be the option to allow uploaded pictures / comments to affect the post count.
