Support / Re: How to send emails?
« on: November 27, 2015, 01:41:07 am »
It jumps around as to which line it calls--and a look in the editor hasn't given me any insight.  This is the error called when sending from the Newsletter (standard) feature of SMF:

Quote
Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation '='
File: /home/histpres/public_html/mypipeclub/forum/Sources/ManageNews.php
Line: 811

This is the error displayed when forcing the standalone, campaign version through Scheduled Tasks:

Quote
Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation '='
File: /home/histpres/public_html/mypipeclub/forum/Sources/NewsPro2.php
Line: 1390

All the rest of the smf SQL database is written in utf8_general_ci collation.  The only thing that is writing and using the unicode version is news pro...

Both PHP files are attached for your consideration, and thanks for the assist!

OK, after delving around, the original question was solved.

New problem.  Either mode, integrated or standard returns this text.  Error line varies each time:

Quote
Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation '='
File: /home/histpres/public_html/mypipeclub/forum/Sources/ManageNews.php
Line: 1023

Needless to say, it sends nothing to no one.

Sometimes it is the NewsPro2.template.php file in the default template.  I have changed the sql database collation several times between the two--just makes another file puke out.  Any thoughts?

Presales for Products / Re: True HTML output in newsletter content
« on: November 25, 2015, 09:55:27 pm »
I see an entire section in the forums on an Advanced Editor Mod.  On closer inspection, it reveals as just a mod for configuring the native SMF editor mod.

Great info on the Newsletter mod.  I think that we will give it a shot.  Too bad about the editor.  SMF may have plans to upgrade this in v3, but I know this might be a very long time.  So much work has gone into custom coding of our v2.x version it will likely be many years until we are forced to move onward.

Far too much argument and controversy in the SMF community over something as simple as a decent editor application...   :(

Presales for Products / True HTML output in newsletter content
« on: November 25, 2015, 06:54:49 pm »
I notice from the screen shots that this mod uses a different editor configuration.  My question concerns the format of outgoing messages.  The native SMF newsletter fails miserably when sending.  Checking the HTML option still delivers BBC to the recipients inbox.  Not a happy thing--although I realize that this may be a function of using the SMFPacks (Nibogo)  Advanced Editor.

Will your newsletter mod correctly format outgoing emails in HTML format?

Also, not really belonging in this thread--but I and my forum users are pretty tired of some long time unresolved issues with that Advanced Editor.  I note somewhere here that SMFHacks offers an advanced editor for SMF--based on the Laboradoodle branch of some time ago.  Is this better and workable for SMF 2.0.9?

Bug Reports / Icons appearing off center to menu item text
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:41:47 pm »
This is not a bug, but I could not find a more appropriate board to post this to...  :-\

As seen in the image below, the icons are displaying at the top of the menu and submenu list boxes.  The major change to the template index.css (Wrap) was to increase the size of the header box to accommodate the site logo, and to push the menu display font to 14pt in order for older readers (the bulk of the membership) to see it larger natively.  Changing the font back to 11 does not solve the problem.

If I uncheck the vertical align:top in both of the inline css instructions, the icons fall back to their proper, inline display.  But I am completely baffled how to find somewhere that this instruction is made.  I have run through the ./default/css/index.css and ./default/css/menu-editor-pro/main.css files to no avail.  I understand enough about coding to make obvious function and style changes--darned if I can iron this one out.

Any suggestions?  I found reference to this sort of issue here:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=470478.360

but it did not help as there were really no pointers except for looking in the main.css file.
