To take this a step further...

Can I assume there's no way currently to see/manage a list of member deleted listings?
Something like http://mydomain.com/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=deletedbin

If not, I will not allow members to delete their listings (I wanted them to be able to do so if their item had sold).

Also, perhaps a good request for down the road would be a master listings database "list" - that would resemble the RecycleBin, but would list all listings in the database. I would suggest it have filters for "All Items" - Recycle Bin Items" - "Deleted Items" - "Any Other Status". A second filter option based on dates would be great also ("Older than 1 week" - "Older than 2 weeks" - "Older than 3 weeks" - "Older than 4 weeks" - "Older than 5 weeks" - ETC...

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Thanks once again!

That is the default by design if a member deletes their own listing. It is just marked as removed in the database.

If an admin with manage classifieds permissions deletes the listing then the listing is completely deleted.

Thanks for your great service!

I see now that if I as an admin put in the exact listing link to a itme that was deleted by a member, I can still see it!
(i.e. http://mydoamin.com/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=49)

What I think we need - and I don't see it a list of the items that are in this "state of being a deleted item" - because if I'm correct, they are not listed in the Recycle Bin, which I'm accessing using:
http://mydomain.com/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=recyclebin

Is there, or would there be a way to get a "list" much like the Recycle Bin, for items that have been deleted by user. I dont' see any way I'd know otherwise which items have been deleted, and I need to then remove to clean up the server of the associated images.

Thanks again!

Support / Custom Field questions
« on: September 27, 2009, 07:56:19 pm »
I have made a custom field for a city location (i.e. Pheonix)

I want to be able to do two things with that custom field..

1) I'd like to be able to search on that (i.e I want to know the items that are in Pheonix)

2) I'd like to have that custom field listed on the list of items for sale in a cat/sub-cat.... (i.e. when you see a  list of items for sale, you can quickly identify if they are in the city near you.

I've searched all the configurations, and this doesn't seem possible to do, but I thought I'd ask if there's any possible solutions!

Thanks

Howdy!

I have it set so members can delete their own listings (if no bid). As a test, I deleted a listing, and then i went to see on the server if it removed the images that were uploaded for that listing, and nope, they remained... is there a possible solution?

Thanks!!!

What's the difference, or, why is there two similarly named files?

classifieds2.php

vs

classifieds.php

ALSO... I see classifieds.php is located under SOURCES/
But, I do not see classifieds2.php anywhere on the server, did I miss it, or where is it located?

Thanks for the response! Glad you see it as a possibility down the road. I have some similar inputs for membergroup specific controls that I'll post!

I'd like to use this topic to learn more of the basics about SMFHacks Classifieds.

To start:

What is this file? What does the utf8 stand for?
classifieds.english-utf8

I hope questions like this won't make me a menace! Thanks for all the support!

Newbie alert! I've tried reading most of the posts here in the classifieds area, hope I didn't miss a thread that would answer my question.

As far as I can tell, the number of images allowed applies to all members. I would love to see it as:

regular members = 1 pics allowed - free to regular members
supporting members = 4 pics allowed - for some nominal cost of paid membership
premium members = 12 pics allowed - for some higher cost of membership

Is that possible under the current version?

I see it as a way to encourage folks to pay for higher levels of membership as their needs dictate.

So far, all i can see it the listing fee can be controlled by membergroup (as discussed in one of the threads here).

Thanks!

I had GoDaddy and I had many problems with them on my hosting so I switched to Hostgator and haven't had any problems what so ever. Hope that helps

Thanks very much! Good info.

I should say, montecarlohosting.com has been very good to me on another site, they just are limited by bandwidth and diskspace for the price. But, then again, GoDADDY may be offering the world in those regards, but I have no idea if they are good as a host in general.

Perhaps SMFHacks will split this out t a new "server" topic.. might be a useful thread!

Godaddy is good for domains.
Hosting not too sure on what they offer. I know there free hosting does not work well with SMF, paid should work ok.  If their php supports GD and fsockopen commands then the classifieds should work fine.

Thanks! I know that question I asked was outside the normal question for SMF Classifieds, so I appreciate you extra effort. Feel free to remove these server related questions if you like!

Yes a private development site is fine by me.

SWEET!!! Thanks! I am getting a domain and hosting setup, and will order when I have a domain to enter on your order site....

Mind a question off topic to this thread? I am thinking of hosting with GODADDY.com, and ordering the domain through them. They offer LINUX and WINDOWS server options, and I do not know which option to pick, or if they support the GD and FOPENSOCK items required.

I have them on the phone now, and they say the LINUX server list FOPENSOCK and a GD app, or something of the sort....

Previous to this I've used MonteCarloHosting.com - and they are good at supporting SMF, and it's modules, and ensured me I meet your SMF Classifieds requirements, But, there plan is very limited to GODADDY.

Can you say if GODADDY LINUX will work with SMF Classifieds, I'd appreciate the help as I 'd like to order now.

Thanks for all your help!

Hello,

been studying the SMF Classifieds, looks very good so far!

I wonder, I want to set up a new forum with the classifieds. when I run SMF forums, I always run a secondary
test" forum that is not public,  that mimics the public forum - I do this so I can test SMF Mods on the test forum first. I always keep these "test" and "public" forums identical in setup - a common concept to forum developers.

Can I have two instances of SMF Classifieds installed on one domain IF the second install is for testing purposes?

Thanks
