What is your use case? A help site with downloads?
The site is running SMF and SimpleDesk, with the message forum and everything else turned off. No user list or personal messages available to users. A pure help desk only site running since the initial releases of SimpleDesk. (I'm SimpleDesk beta tester from early on) The majority of our users probably don't even know what an internet message forum is.
I've been managing it for the last several years and was recently asked if I could provide the ability to allow users of a particular membergroup to download files without them being able to share the URL link to the file with non-members. Thus the need for something like Download System.
After looking at the security method in Downlaod System I'm a little worried that it's a DENY based setting and not a PERMIT based setting. For example....
Member Groups:
MemberGroup1
MemberGroup2
File Download Areas:
Files for MemberGroup1
Files for MemberGroup2
If I want users in MemberGroup1 to not see files in download area "Files for MemberGroup2" then I have to deny them access.
But what happens if I have a user who is legitimately a member of MemberGroup1 and MemberGroup2 and I want them to have access to both download areas? Does this mean I'm going to have to setup new membergroups, one for every possible combination of membergroups?
Thanks,
Paul
