Support / Couple of Remaining Errors
« on: July 14, 2022, 08:23:19 am »
Hey there...

I've been getting these errors in my log from time to time...

Not a lot ... but this has been happening since I moved to 2.1.x FOR SURE... but could have been happening prior (to be 100% honest my last 2.0.x site was a mess and I was getting random errors from places quite frequently).

What I know:  It happens ONLY when my badgemaster is adding a new badge.  It seems to affect nothing that you can notice from a user perspective as my badgemasters have never complained about something broken ... even when asked.  Hence my extreme urgency on this matter (sarcasm evident?)...

;)

If you get a little time and are bored and want to look in to this... that would be awesome.

:D

Thanks!

Support / Server Issues
« on: May 12, 2022, 09:01:51 am »
This last weekend we experienced some server issues...

I was told:

Quote
I found that the site was hitting PHP-FPM pool limits. I have increased those considerably which should resolve the issue.

That seemed to resolve the issue for a few hours... but then the site went down again.  I re-inquired.  After a short while everything went back online and it has been since.  A day or two later my server admin emailed me:

Quote
How have things been performing since your last reply?

We ended up increasing the limits on another setting within an hour or so of your last reply. Have things been normal since then?

Another thing they mentioned is that there was a lot of traffic to a specific query that day that seemed like a possible indicator of a code-related issue. We're not 100% positive but something wasn't adding up that day.

The overall traffic isn't what was really concerning but the amount of requests for specific things were much higher than some of the other sites on the server that have a lot more traffic (as a comparison).

For example, here's one comment from the datacenter:

"When looking at traffic from 67.XXX.112.XXX, I found quite a few of the following requests:

67.XXX.112.XXX - - [09/May/2022:16:10:24 -0400] "GET /index.php?action=profile;area=alerts_popup;counter=6;u=436 HTTP/1.1" 200 486 "https://www.NOFOLLOW.com/index.php?action=badgeawards;sa=badgedetail&id=699" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/101.0.4951.54 Safari/537.36"

You may want to run that by the site developer to see if there have been recent changes."

That particular IP (user) above had about 5000 requests in the timeframe that day we were reviewing.

The IP in question above is one of my BADGEMASTERS.  I asked him about that day... if he noticed anything... and asked what he was doing.  He replied:

Quote
That's odd for sure.

I was browsing around the master badge list looking at previous badges I have missed as I'm thinking of starting a thread of Zombie badge hunting for stuff that I may have missed being late to the AHA game.

I probably had 15 or so tabs open with various badges from the list and the threads they came from. It certainly didn't feel like much of anything excessive though.

I cannot begin to imagine how I could have generated 5000 requests for anything from the site over a particular time period though, unless that period was days to weeks long.

I had a fair number of problems on Monday when the site was having issues, but so did everyone.

Anything I can do to assist in troubleshooting though, let me know.

It seems that messing around in the MASTER BADGE list may have caused too many PHP calls or something?!? I have no idea... hence my post here.  Keep in mind we are nearly at 1000 badges now.

Any way to prevent this in the future?  Is my hypothesis correct?  Am I going to have to start DELETING badges? (say it isn't so!!!)

:D

Anyway,  whatever they did on their side seems to have worked as the site is up and we've not had any more issues since...

Support / Icon Size
« on: April 06, 2022, 12:55:13 pm »
Hello,

I've found the code where I can add a style height tag to adjust the height of an icon for both the selection section to the right... as well as the display section to the left.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

What I've been having difficulty finding is where I can control the size of the icon that is attached to the ALERT drop down and ALL ALERTS screen.

My idea is to use larger icons ... maybe 32x32.. they look great at this size in the messages sections... however,  they are about twice as large as they should be in the alerts drop down and in the all alerts section...

Where can I find the line I need to edit to reduce the size of those icons to say... 40% it's size on the drop down and 60% it's size in the all alerts section?

Thanks!

Support / CSS Question
« on: April 02, 2022, 02:48:12 pm »
I've posted this over on SMF site so I might get the answer there first... but I figured I'd ask here too as it has to do with this mod...

I've done some CSS work and some HTML tweaks to this mod.  The HTML tweaks are easy enough to implement in to the mod so that when I uninstall/reinstall my tweaks are included... but i am not 100% sure how to implement the CSS.

Currently I have the CSS at the bottom of the index.css for each theme.  How would I either...

(A) Inject this CSS in to the index.css of each theme (or give the option for each theme)

or

(B) Include a css stylesheet ... I'm pretty sure how to load the stylesheet in to the default themes css folder,  but I don't know how to actuall CALL that stylesheet so that the css is implemented.

In any case... here is my latest CSS tweak...

Tiny tweak = better profile.

ONE REQUEST: Currently we can turn names on and off.  But I would like the name OFF for the message view and ON for the profile view.  Next update,  can that be added by chance?  It might fill up a little of that bank space to the left.  Another idea would be toimplement a PIE or some other CHART over there to the right.  That would be cool.

Support / Alerts Issue
« on: March 28, 2022, 09:01:08 pm »
I have spent hour trying to track down my my ALERTS system was so ... buggy.  So iffy.  It would deliver alerts HOURS late... and then in huge bunches of like 8 or 10...

I've been going back and forth with the SMF folks...

I eventually did some testing with Firefox open with one username and Chrome with another testing over and over.

I determined that WITH the problem mod I a user could create a topic ... and any alert he got from within his own topic was fine.  It alerted quickly and without issue.  HOWEVER... if a user responded to a post NOT of his own... and people did something to cause an alert to that person responding... the alert would go in to limbo to be delivered...whenever.  Sometimes delivered hours later... or when a trigger caused it to be delivered with a bunch of others.

SO the devs at SMF had me check some background task table and we determined that a mod was likely causing the issue.

So I went to my sandbox.  Fresh SMF install.  I then installed the mods i have installed one at a time and tested.

When I got to this Ratings mod.  It appears to break the system.  When installed,  I no longer have "reliable" alerts that take only seconds to arrive.  I also can build up a bunch of rating alerts... which wont trigger... then QUOTE and they will all trigger at the same time.... etc... basically the same behavior i've been getting complaints abuot.

I have uninstalled the mod from the system and I am asking my users to please test.  They are the ones who noticed the issue (I don't do alerts all too much)... But I am pretty confident in my findings as I have done some pretty extensive testing.  This has been driving me nuts for weeks and today I decided to figure it out.

Support / Move to Info Center
« on: March 27, 2022, 10:41:03 am »
How difficult would it be to move the BADGE AWARDS info center block to within the info center itself?  I ask as I just implemented a Tabs scheme that is posted on the Tips/Tricks section of the simplemachines forum and it works fantastic... I'd love to move the badges down and in to the info center as one of the tabs...

(see attachement)

Support / Top X List
« on: March 25, 2022, 06:35:59 pm »
How hard would it be to do a TOP X LIST (Top 10 List for example) of those with the most badges and the number of badges for each?

I would like to create a "Top 10 Badge-Whores" list ... either in a portal block or in the info center or what not.

Doable with little fuss by chance?

Found these errors in the LOG this morning.  Never found them prior.

Something to do with mobile,  which isn't my wheelhouse by any stretch.

Also,  Diabolus is one of my "Badgemasters" ... and it appears this was generated in the admin area.  He did not complain to me about any behavior issue so I am guessing it went un-noticed.

Support / [REQUESTS] Menu of Requests
« on: March 18, 2022, 09:30:26 am »
Hello!

Understanding that you may be working on the Badges mod in the (near) future... here are some requests that my userbase has asked me to put forward to you... they are simply... requests.

:)

Alerts.  I know you're very much interested in adding alerts to this mod.  AWESOME!  Since we really don't need the image of the user "sending" the alert... just an image of the badge in the alert would be killer!

Display options.  This is my #1 requested item for years (since the old version).  Users would LOVE to be able to CHOOSE which badges they display.  Me?  I would love to see a RANDOM option.  I can see it working something like this... in admin,  choose the number of badges to display.  Each badge has a pull down with three options.. option 1: latest badges, option 2: random badges, option 3: custom badges.  If options 1 or 2 are selected... done,  however if option 3 is chosen,  then a sub drop down with all the users badges appears where they can choose which badge they want to appear in that spot.  NOW... I am getting this is a HUGE HUGE HUGE change and I am guessing it would require a buttload of work... but it is the #1 requested change I get for this mod.  ME?  I would be thrilled to allow each user to simply choose "LATEST BADGES" or "RANDOM BADGES"... a user profile choice.

Location options.  This is my OCD kicking in.  For the 2.0.x version of this mod I moved the badges to have them display horizontally in the location where the Awesome Ratings mod shows up (bottom right,  flush right).  I would love to see an option to choose to leave it where it is at the left,  or display on the bottom right,  flush right,  ideally UNDER the Advanced Rating mod if a user was to have it installed.  This allows for more ratings to be displayed without making the "minimum post window" crazy long.  For example,  the current way the mod displays,  I can get 8 badges up there making 2 columns.  If I go with 12 or 16,  the minimum window for each post (if,  for example someone only uses one or two lines) is getting larger and larger...  moving the ratings to the bottom right allows for 16 or more badges.  It also balances the page IMHO.

Hover.  Any way to make this mod either ZOOM or simply "pop-up" the full size image of each badge when you run your mouse over them?  THAT would be a worthy upgrade IMHO.

Remove View All.  Is it necessary to have the "View all" text above the badges?  If we can't have them zoom or pop-up... or even in addition TO being able to zoom or pop-up on hover,  it would be nice to be able to click the badges to get to the "see all" screen... or better yet,  to get to that specific badges "see all" screen.

That's about it.  I asked my users to tick off what they'd love to see changed about the badges system and this is it with some of my own ideas sprinkled in.

Thanks for the consideration and I would be happy to beta test anything for 2.1.1 for you.

;)

Support / REACT BBC Code OOps
« on: March 18, 2022, 07:09:14 am »
It took all of about 8 hours for my members to realized and post the fact that all you gotta do to avoid the REACTION BBC is hit QUOTE...

...I'm guessing this isn't something that can be fixed?

EDIT: Also,  perhaps a switch to turn on/off the BBC "image" would be in order (either in the mods admin section or in the stock section of SMF where the BBCs are would work)?

Support / Portal Block
« on: March 13, 2022, 10:23:54 am »
It would be cool to create a portal block to display a users badges...

Would the code for that be something simple enough to cut/paste in to a PHP block?

14
Support / Button
« on: March 12, 2022, 09:56:01 am »
Remembering that I am a hack at best (yes,  I'm dangerous!)...

I've managed to add a button to the left side to view all ratings...

I even realized there are two spots that needed to be modified as the "button" that shows before rating a post is a different "button" that shows after...

However,  when I attempted to do the same input button command I used for the two View List buttons for the "Undo Rating" button I've failed over and over.  I would prefer the "Undo Rating" text that appears be in button format if possible.

This is the code I am attempting to use that is failing:

document.getElementById("errrateawemsgid" + msgID).innerHTML = "<a href=\"#undorate\" onclick=\"return AweAjaxRatingUndo(" + msgID + ");\">' . '<input type="button" value="View List">' . '</a>";

Now that portion I changed ('<input type="button" value="View List">') is all I added to the display.template and awesome2.templates to get the View List to work.  That said... I recognize they are in the template directory and the file I need to modify for Undo Rates is in the sources directory... which may or may not mean anything because like I said... I'm a hack and I have no idea.

NOW... I did just realize there is that little #undorate tag... which mean (I think) I can create specific css for that button... right? (I am JUST starting to learn css).  Is there a way to create the button via css or do I have to do it in the code directly?

ALTERNATIVELY ... to be honest... i wanted to load up an ICON rather than even the button in both the View List and Undo Ratings locations... I am guessing that would be pretty simple to do for something who knows what they are doing... for me?  I failed miserably... hence the reason I went with the button.    If you could provide the code to load up an image at both locations that would be even all the sweeter.  I was thinking I'd run a little crank image for the view list and maybe a "RATE" with a red circle/line through it for UNDO RATING or something.

Thank you for all you're help thus far...

Support / Alerts...

Hi!

At some point it would be awesome if the Badge Awards would alert when a new badge is given.  I did have another badges system in 2.0.x and that was being triggered,  but not 2.1.1's stock alerts of course...
