Support / Auction / Listing question...
« on: August 23, 2008, 08:01:49 pm »
Test Listing  bets $11.11 1 08/05/2008
02:08 pm Unlimited 0 31

Thats from the demo site but somethin ust hit me, if somethings taking bids but has an unlimited ending date how does it get sold ? Also, dumb question but aside from a buy it now button or something mentioning a RSV how do you tell the difference between a listing and an auction ?

1. Could be done but not built in at the moment.

2. Yes it uses IPN but it overrides the paypal ipn url in your account with a custom variable on the form which allows the classifieds to work.

3. When someone wins an auction they get sent via pm a link to the page to complete payment. For a normal listing they are just taken straight to the payment page.

4. I would change featured listings diplay if I was going to the alternating style classes.
1. Thats cool but I feel that would be the best way of handling the featured items / auctions.

2. So does that mean it wont intefere with the IPN stuff I have in there now that works with my donation system for my site(s) ? So like I dont need to delete my current IPN url that goes to my donations ipn.php file.

3. Cool so with the recycle thing removing auctions wont intefere with people paying for an item won. Still dont get how that would work but I can figure it out after purchasing the mod.

4. No need to address because it fits into what I said for 1

-------

Anyway that just about does it for all my curiosity questions except for one last thing that deals with the feedback system. While I understand this is a totally seperate mod I only bring it up since it seems to tie into the classified mod.

As for what the q's are I'll just direct you to your post on SMF... I'm the last reply on the thread. In either case youve been a bit help and I'm literally one step away from buyin this mod which is really nice.

1. Hmm, well first let me address what you said about my featured comment. While that is true here's a suggestion that could work. On the initial classifieds menu you have a Recent Listing (List All) why not do soemthing like that , so when a person enteres a category where auctions are allowed they would see something like this at the top of the page Featured Listings (List All)... so it could show the 8 most recent featured listings in the "block" and when a person clicks list all they goto a page that shows all the featured listings. The rest of the category would look as it does now just with the Featured Listings (List All) block at the top of every page in categories where auctions are allowed.

Listing credit is automatic just depends on when the payment clears. e-Checks normally take a couple days to clear once they do they have the credit.
Does this work off the PayPal IPN because if so that wont work for me as my sites donation system works off the IPN system for PayPal.

By default listings do not drop off the list. But you can setup a recycle bin when an auction is completed or expires will be moved to the recycle bin thus removed from the list.
Could you please clarify on that a bit, I mean I kinda get it but if something goes to a "recycle bin" cant that interfere with the buyers ability to pay for an auction they won ? Or do they get some sort of a PM / email with a Pay Now option upon the close of an auction they bid on / won ?

The listing separator would require a theme edit such as adding an hr tag or setting up an alternating style such as windowbg for one row and windowbg2 for the second row

For the categories for the listings so it has a border and alternate colors in between.
I have that planned for SMF Gallery 1.4
The alternating color might be a good idea but that could interfere with featured listings since theyre colored... in that case it could be rectified by doing what I suggested in 1. So you could do the alternating color for the auctions / listings but not have it interfere with featured items.

Edit: Alternating colors for gallery ? I have gallery pro now and off the top of my head I dont see where alternating colors would help galery. I'd have to go look at it to maybe see if I can think of what your thinkin.

Seems were editing our posts at the same time lol, sorry for that...

Thx for all the help...

One last thing for now, but first, sorry for all the questions I just wana make sure I get all my questions / concerns out before I shell out $80 for this mod.

http://www.smfhacks.com/storedemo/index.php?action=classifieds;cat=1

I assuming just about every category looks the same in the way it shows its listing / auctions , well is there a way to have them seperated by a line so it would look something like this...

auction 1
-------------
auction 2
-------------
auction 3

etc... I only ask that because on themes with dark colors like mine (WoWDK theme) something like a divider line between each listing / auction would help tell where one ends and the other begins.

Oh and before I forget... I noticed that some of the listings on the demo have a dark blue tint, would those be featured listings ? If so wouldnt it be easier just to have all the featured listing anchored to the top of the page since they are infact supposed to be featured. Or in each category have it look soemthing like this which I hope makes sense.

Code: (Featured Listings) [Select]
Listing one
---
Listing 2
---
Listing 3

Code: (Regular listings) [Select]
Listing one
---
Listing 2
---
Listing 3

Gotcha, one thing though...

You are ordering a listing credit for the "Paid Listing" category for the cost of $0.70. The listing credit can be used to create listings in that category only.

Other Membergroup Prices
Administrator $0.75 Join this Group
Regular Members $0.70

Listings in this category run for 7 days.

Payments made by eCheck will take a couple days to process.

------

Is that automatic, like if I charge people $1 for every listing do they automatically get the listing credit upon sending me the payment or is that soemthing I need to do manually after confirming payment ?

Also, as I understand it I know we can set in admin the max length in which auctions run. So say I set a max of 10 days that any auction can run, can a person select the ammount of days they want their auction to run between the low of 1 day and the max of 10 or are all auctions default (forced) into 10 days ?

Edit: If something has unlimited time left but has completed under current price does that mean while the auction has unlimited time someone ended it by using buy it now or something ?

As for closed auctions, how long do they stay visible before they drop off the "list" ?

I was looking at the demo, as I understand it that auctions completed but says it has 90 some odd days left, whats up with that ?

Also, I thought view counts were session specific. If thats the case why can I add 20 counts to a test listing just by refreshing my page ?

The user probably never added to the mod tracker or saw my response to add it there.
Oh, when you posted that I thought you meant you were going to add it. Not that he had to, with that said I'm going to take the initiative and add it myself.

Those ideas are currently on hold. When I have time I update those mods.
Heh, guess I never considered that. But how come I dont see his idea in the mod tracker. Granted his post is fro mmarch but I dont see his idea in the mod itself as bein g implemented or in the mod tracker and it really is a good idea to see who feedbacks going to not just who it came from.

DELETE FROM smf_gallery_pic where ID_MEMBER = 44 AND ID_CAT = 2
Worked like a charm, Ty ;-)

DELETE FROM smf_gallery_pic where ID_MEMBER = 44
Thx, now that just means that I have to delete the physical pictures themselves.

Edit: Before I run this and make a mess of things is there a way to make that query category specific ?

Basicaly all I want to do is delete all pictures by member 44 but ONLY in category 2

I like this idea as well but I have a question about the mod tracker. Why is there still stuff in it going back to 07 and as for his suggestion I dont see it in the Mod Tracker.

No easy way you would have to go though the database.

in the gallery_pic table delele all pictures where the id_member = the member id.

Highly recommend making database backups before altering information in the database.
The id of the member is 44

Coul you write a query for me to run please, would make this alot easier.

Edit: *Points up to his last reply...*

Any chance on a future update where multiome deletions could be done by say a checkbox method like with posts and stuff.
