slightly unhappy with gallery pro!
« on: July 20, 2007, 04:58:22 am »
hi all.

I have been looking high and low for a very simple to use gallery for a site my wife wants that works with smf, and when I found this, I tried the lite one and found it did not offer the users a gallery each.

I checked the pro version and it stated that there are category level permissions, couple this with users abiluty to have their own gallery and I thought, perfect, its integrated, and it does what she wants in a simple way.

How fary annoyed I was when I paid for it, installed it, so far so good but users gallerys do not offer any permissions at all?

Either I have missed the huge option somewhere or it simply is a little misseleading.  Stating category level permissions when in fact this only applies to admins not to private gallery users, and that simply is useless.

Of course, I cant get my money back now either since there is a no refund policy in place (though I may fight this as the law does say 7 days for electronic products)

Can anyone offer a suggestion to have users be able to set their own permission levels.  I dont want them to be able to stop anyone viewing the iages, but some need to have a particular category open for others to publish images to

Category level permissions are only for the main galleries.
For the next beta their is an option for to set a user gallery to private and set who is allowed to access it.

Category level permissions for user galleries is little different since the permissions are by membergorup. A user could in theory restrict admin's and moderators from a gallery.

And the only two permissions that user galleries could have would be allow viewing a category and allow comments.

Since the category level permissions is by membergroup it was decided that it would not make sense to implement it for the user galleries categories.

Let me take some of the comments back (I was grumpy with flu!)  It does what we need and does it very very well, permissions are not an issue any longer, integration is perfect and simplicity which was key for us is perfect also.

Couple things I need some help with.

On the main gallery page within SMF there is a block at the bottom titled " Gallery Stats"  I would like to remove it.

Also.

When a user enters their gallery, under each image it has the following.

Rating
Views
Filesize
Date
Comments

I am not using any of these and would like to know how to remove them from being displayed at all.

Thanks in advance and this is a great gallery I am now satisfied, mor ethan I expected to be honest given the minimal fee paid for the product

This would require a template edit.
Open Themes/default/Gallery.template.php
Find and remove
Code: [Select]
// Show stats link
echo '<br /><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5" border="0" align="center" width="90%" class="tborder">
<tr class="titlebg">
<td align="center">' . $txt['gallery_stats_title'] . '</td>
</tr>
<tr class="windowbg2">
<td align="center"><a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=gallery;sa=stats">', $txt['gallery_stats_viewstats'] ,'</a></td>
</tr>
</table><br />';
