MCP Server for SMF 2.1 - let Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor run your admin chores

MCP Server for SMF 2.1 is out. It gives your forum a Model Context Protocol endpoint, which means AI assistants such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai, ChatGPT connectors and Cursor can
  connect to your forum and do admin work for you, in plain English.

  What that looks like in practice
 

• "Summarize the open reports and tell me which ones are actual spam."
• "Find accounts that registered in the last 48 hours from the same IP range with zero posts, and ban the obvious bots."
• "Why are members not getting their activation emails?" - it checks the mail queue and scheduled tasks and tells you.

• Moderation: reported posts and members with reporter comments, close / ignore reports, moderator notes, the approval queue, warnings with the watch / moderate / mute thresholds, post removal and
    topic deletion (recycle board aware).
• Members: search by name, email, IP range, date, post count or status; full profiles with warning history; every IP a member used and other accounts sharing them; login history; approve or reject
    registrations; member groups; bans; personal messages.
• Content: read and search topics, create topics and replies, edit posts, lock / pin / move, create and reorder boards and categories, board visibility per group.
• Settings and stats: read and change every setting the admin panel shows, activity stats with period comparison, top posters / boards / topics, who is online.
• Logs and maintenance: admin, moderation and error logs, scheduled task status and run-now, mail queue status, recount.

  Built for administrators, safely
 

• Every call runs as the administrator who created the key, through SMF's own permission system. Demote that account and the key stops working.
• Every write and delete is recorded in the admin log with the tool and the target. The admin page shows recent activity.
• Deleting tools are flagged as destructive, so the assistant asks you before calling them.
• Administrators cannot be banned, deleted, warned or demoted through the endpoint. Password hashes, salts and the key itself are never returned.
• Rate limited per key. Works with two-factor authentication on the admin account.
• No Node.js, no extra services: one PHP file plus a few Sources files, installed through the package manager with no core edits.

  Setup takes about five minutes
  1. Install the package.
  2. Go to Admin -> Configuration -> MCP / AI Access and click Generate key.
  3. Paste the endpoint into your client. The admin page shows the exact commands for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai and Cursor.

  Requirements: SMF 2.1.x on MySQL, PHP 7.4 or newer, and an MCP client.
