SMF Gallery Folder Structure
« on: August 23, 2007, 07:14:45 pm »
Hey Mr. SMFHacks,

I have a question, request and comment...really I don't know which one it is...

But anyway, recently I moved my 4 websites (3 of them use the SMF Gallery), to a new and MUCH improved server. 2 of the websites were small to medium in size, however my Razorbiker.com site has approximately 9000+ images...which results in about 18000+ files...all in the same folder.

Moving a folder with that many files is tedious at best and can be near impossible when dealing with web hosters that oversell. But main point is that is a LOT of images to move at one time and can be confusing when dealing with that many files.

Would it not be possible to have a SEPARATE FOLDER for each "category". This would be much easier to manage.

Thanks for listening.

Wally

I have since found out from my webhoster that originally he had folders set up for 15,000 files/folder. He has since changed it to 50,000 files/folder. This will carry me on for awhile, but by next summer, I will surpass that number. This is one of the reasons we might want to have folders for the images.

Others may encounter this same problem too. Probably not many...but some.

Is this a possibility in a future release?

Thanks,

Wally
