Help! "Recent Topic" "Latest Post" hack

I have searched for two days, I am brand new to smf. I have a phpbb2 forum and want to move to smf.  I have a hack on phpbb2 which displays the 10 most recent posts on the index page in a scrolling box.  I have been unable to find anything like this for smf.  I do see a "Recent" box on the right here on this forum, but hell... I cant find this mod either. 
Can a phpbb mod be modified to work on smf?  Are there any forums that I can go to where I can hire someone to make a change like this or hire someone to add the hacks to each theme?

I have loaded smf 1.1.3

Where is this mod, and can it be used with the dilbert theme?
