White screen for trying to upload pics
« on: November 03, 2007, 11:03:39 am »
Everything worked fine, uploaded about 500 pictures by "import", by "bulk" and one at a time and everything worked.

Now all I get is a white screen regardless of how I upload.

Any ideas?

Anything in the error log? Have you changed servers? If you have access to the php settings set display_errorrs = on and see if you get an error message.

Nope haven't changed servers.  No idea how to access my php settings.  Heres what I get from the Mozilla error log

Check your forum's error log.
Admin -> Forum Maintance -> Error Log

No errors in reference to the gallery

However I found out if I resize the pics that won't upload to 75% they upload fine.  But I have my max size way above what they are and the other ones worked fine.

 ???

I am getting this error but I don't think it has to do with the issue but it'd be nice to get resolved

If they are large files check your php settings by default php limits files greater than 2mb

Who is your WebHoster? It DOES make a difference.

It wouldn't be Ipowerweb, Powweb or SimpleHosting would it?

The files I uploaded that worked fine, were all 1.0 to 1.22MB and they worked

The ones I can't get to work now are 1.1 to 1.3MB but won't work

I just went back and tried uploading one of the pics again that worked before, still works.

Makes no sense to me but I really don't care to go through resizing several hundred pics just to get them to upload.

Also, any idea on the Undefined Index galllery issue?

Dreamhost.com, like MANY other lowcost webhostes OVERSELLS their services. One of the inherent problems with OVERSELLERS is the database either becomes extremely slow or unstable. There are many OVERSELLERS like this for example, Ipowerweb, Powweb, Simplehost, etc. They all oversell and for sites that use a database and/or php forums and photo galleries they CAN BE a nightmare.

I know, I have went through it with several webhosters that OFFER the moon and deliver very little.

There are low volume webhosters out there that offer more reasonable space and bandwidth for low cost...USE THEM. Do not use an OVERSELLER unless you are prepared for problems with reliability, emails, databases, and general down time.

I don't know if your problem is due to Dreamhost, however if you can find no other explanations (or if you site just BURPS occasionally for no reason), then you MIGHT want to start looking for a better webhoster.

I've never really had too much issues with Dreamhost.  I really think this is an issue with the image sizing.  Something with it sizing the pictures down and that the sizes from some cameras it does fine, but this one it can't handle.  But I obviously could be way off

I didn't exactly figure out the problem but I did realize that out of the X number of cameras that the pictures were from, the only ones that had issues were all from the same camera.

I changed the size of those pics ever so slightly and the problem was solved.

Weird

I know a few forum that all have this prob, even when the max size is higher than the pic, usually resizing the pic to under 1000px wide does the trick. It would be great if pics were auto resized thou  ;)
