gallery telling me path is not writable when it is 777 (solved)

i'm having a nightmare transferring to my new host, but that's another story :)

i've installed and set up the gallery lite on my smf forum and it's working fine.

i've copied the images and thumbnails across from my old host, and i've updated the relevant database tables and everything works as it should.

apart from when i set the gallery path to http:/my_url/gallery/ it tells me it's not writable.

but it IS writable because i've done a chmod 777 on it, and the root directory

so i'm a bit confused if anyone has any ideas?

*edit - solved about 2 seconds after i posted, so please ignore.  sorry :)
