Procedure for Batch Upload/Import of files.
« on: October 05, 2006, 02:29:26 pm »
Would it be possible to post a short tutorial about the priocedure for bulk upload or importation of files?

The problem I am having is in trying to upload a folder containing images into the "import" folder. The server kicks back a 550 error stating no permission to rename, modify or even change permission. The import folder has been cmodded to 777.

When I uplod the folder outside of the "import" folder, all is well, and by changing the import path to the name of the uploaded folder, all functions as it should.

So two questions here. Should I upload images only into the "import" folder and then do the import function?

Once the images are in the gallery, do you delete the uploaded images out of the import folder to prepare it for the next batch? And in the case of the upload outside of the import folder, once imported into the gallery, is it alright to delete the uploaded folder without losing the product?

Other than this, an excellent mod that installed flawlessly. It is much appreciated.

The procedure for using the import folder. Is to place only images inside that folder it will not scan folders inside the import folder.  T

he gallery does not delete the images that have been imported though the import folder.

I did this mainly in case someone pointed the import directory so the user would not loose their pictures better to be safe than sorry.

Once files are imported though the import folder you need to delete them otherwise they will be imported again if you add more files to that folder and use the import function.

Keep posting for feature requests for the next version.

Thanks for your prompt reply and I will. You have a marvelous product that will only get better.

I have spent almost a year trying to get Coppermine properly integrated into my forums without complete success and this simple script you have created, does what nothing else does without all the hassles.

Saludos

Ok, I tried uploading via FTP individual image files to the import folder and that is not permitted, It throws this error.

Code: [Select]
553-Can't open that file: Permission denied
553 Rename/move failure: No such file or directory

Is that a server side problem? I also cannot cmod from 0755 to 0777. This is the only folder on my server where this problem arises

hmm, that is strange. Try to delete the folder then remake the import folder and try to change the permissions onit it.

Very strange.

I went into my server to change the permissions. They showed 0755 but when I opened the box to make the change, the box showed 777. The server would not allow the folder to be deleted nor modified, except,

It allowed me to change the name to "importation" which really is not important. I was then able, via FTP to create a new folder named "import" and change permissions to 777 without a problem. Now I am allowed to populate the new import folder yet the one that I remamed remains on the server.

A work around to be sure. But it is a strange problem.

Thats normal  :)  ask from your server admin to delete the renamed folder  ;)

that's strange. Since that folder is just extracted via the package manager.
You don't have to use that import folder though.
You can make another folder an import pictures using that folder.

Well i tried that before posting but i know see that i forgot a / at the end ::)
But it's still very strange that that folder doesn't allow chmodding or upload, please look into this for your next release ;)

On mine, it doesn't seem to want to execute php ... when I hit "import files" it offers me a chance to download index.php ... I can only assume the index.php is the script in the gallery dir, although it is empty when I open it.

What directory do you have it set for importing?

the only one that will work --PATH .. /forums/gallery/import/

I even renamed the original import, and made a new one -- now it no longer tries to download index.php, but it takes me to a blank screen and nothing is actually imported to the gallery.

I am having a very similar problem and cannot import pictures from the /gallery/import/ folder.   On the Gallery application side, it is defaulting to the following folder for importing : /home/content/j/c/g/jcgomez/html/gallery/import/

I have verified that this folder has 777 access rights.  What did I do wrong??

Please HELP!!!!!

What does it say or do when you try to import?
Try deleting and creating the import folder again and make it writable.
