500 error on upload..
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:41:58 pm »
forgive my ignorance, Im about 2 days into my first site with smf.  I have everything afaik going right in my forums. I installed gallery lite 1.8.2 and everything seems to be ok.. I created different sections for my different pictures but everytime I try to upload them I get an error.

500 internal server error-

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@wowmalice.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

When I view the gallery via cpanel, I can see the thumbnails I tried to upload. So Im somewhat confused.

 Any suggestions?

Try to change permissions on Sources/Galllery.php to 755

I put gallery.php to 755, and tried again.  Same outcome.  For what its worth, it creates a  "1_05_03_08_1_46_14.jpg" and a "1_05_03_08_1_46_14.jpg_thumb.tmp " after each upload attempt.  Both files come out with a 644 permissions.  I even played around with the url setting and changed it to "http://www.wowmalice.net/forum/index.php?action=gallery" as the "http://www.wowmalice.net/forum/gallery/" just gives me an index style page with my attempted upload files.

I guess I speculate it has something to do with the association of the new thumbnails, as it seems to error at the end of the upload.  When I type a discription of the new picture, its not even listing that inside the category.

Not sure if its related, but I cant link a picture inside my front article on my tiny portal. When I use its interface to browse my server, I get an error code as well. I use the FCKeditor with TP .983. Editing my main article and inserting an image, then clicking edit picture; the text in the lower box comes up in a non english format. I then click browse, and I get "XML request error: Internal Server Error 500"

Im not running a default theme, I have helios, if that matters.

*  UPDATE *   I have since resolved the issue with fckeditor.  Seems that a file called connector.php was set to be writeable by others.  I chmod it to 755 and it worked like a champ. ( tp that is ).   Still unable to upload my pictures though.

Are you able to upload attachments and smileys on your forum?

Sounds like either a permission or mod_security issue.

I havent tried smileys yet, but I did upload a few files that are downloadable via the download manager with Tiny Portal.  Those dont seem to have any issues.  I have also added a few different graphics on the site, none of which gave me any issues.  Ill try the smileys, and see if it gives me any errors.

I'm having the same problem.  The file does upload to the gallery folder, but I get the HTTP 500 internal server error.  I thought I read someplace about a setting in the php.ini file that might do this, not allowing enough time for the file to upload.  Seems weird that the entire picture is in my gallery folder, though.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

When do you get the 500 internal error after upload? Does the image appear inside a category.

Also check your forum error log.
