Help with installation of Gallery Lite

Okay, who's the genius who wrote these detailed directions?

"Install Information:
1.Upload to your packages directory of your SMF folder
2.Goto your package manager and apply the mod.
3.Then afterwords make the gallery directory writable."

1. Got it uploaded
2. Applied the mod
3. HOW DO YOU DO THIS?!

I have been wrestling with this mod for weeks and can't get it to work. I have no prior experience with PHP so this may just be a beginner's frustration, but these directions are incomplete and insufficient at best.

I'm running the latest version of smf last I checked (1.1.4), and also using the scribbles 1.1 theme. the site that this forum is on would be www.scrappersplayground.net/forum. Any/all help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also any help to make the gallery button clickable would be excellent as well.

One thing that you should always do for any mod install is to set your forum to the SMF Default theme... AFAIK there are no mods that will install to a custom theme.

Once you have everything working correctly in the SMF Default you would then add links in your custom theme to get that working correctly.
In the Scribbles theme the mods that it supports will only work if the mod is actually installed and at this point the theme is not seeing the Gallery install.

EDIT: The older version of Scribbles works OK, but you may wish to consider replacing it with the newer and better Scribbles2 version... you can find it HERE.
You should be able to run both if you want to, but the Scribbles2 version is lots better IMHO.

Now which file do I have to open in order to make a nav button to the gallery page in Scribbles2?
I REALLY don't want to mess with the php files unless there is a method to make the nav button and not harm or corrupt the coding.
