a graphics question

ok, i have a banner i want to use on a forum in the default core theme, but i can't figure out how to align it properly. actually i'd like it to take up the entire width of that table cell.

here's an example, can someone tell me what part of what file to edit for alignment?

You'll need to edit the /themes/default/index.template.php file. Maybe consider aligning it center. The width of that cell will vary depending on your user's screen resolution.
Look for:
