Okay I have a request for a run away gallery situation.

I currently have a gallery that has a few hundred photos of various designs by various designers.

The new trend on the gallery by a handful of members has been to run around giving photos 1 star like it was a slap in the face instead of a valid rating. I guess like leaving a penny for a waitresses tip.

It has pretty much led to new forum users being less likely to post their works because they are afraid of being embarrassed or getting the 1 star treatment. So we had to totally disable the rating system since it was being abused.

Here's what I think would solve the problem and enable us to bring it back (because many members really enjoyed it a lot... so much that they are now upset about it being gone.)

If a user rates a picture would it be possible to make them comment to rate it? And have the Stars appear in the comment as well as the overall totals. This way, now all users know exactly who gave who what and for what reason. I think this will also stop people from randomly slamming someones post by giving it a 1 star knowing that their identity is no longer hidden.

It's one thing to give 1 star and say "hey i thought this this and this about your image" so that it is taken as constructive criticism vs "bam! 1 star that shizzle suckers! so that my ratings look better!"

Hopefully this is an easy addition to the gallery. I think it will make people respect the system a bit better instead of abusing it.

I was thinking about adding this myself. To show the rating along with the comment good idea. I will add it as an option to 1.4

Thanks Hacks! I was hoping you'd say that. We turned off the ratings system on Thursday and it's already spawned a 3 page (and still growing) thread of complaints about it being gone.

Is there an easy way to reset the ratings across all posts globally? If you implement this new idea I would like to have a way to reset the existing ratings and start from scratch without having to delve into the database to remove ratings on all pictures manually.
