Are the language files from version 1.4
(see this topic) compatible with gallery version 2.0?

They will work but the lite edition is missing 90% of text found in gallery pro so it would probably be better creating a new one from scratch.

I think that the PRO version (v1) doesn't contain all the text for v2? Is there somewhere/somehow a tool to simply translate the files? Now I do it with Dreamweaver or Araneae but I have a Hernia so I need it to keep it as simple as possible ....

You just update the language text in Gallery.english.php and modifications.english.php
And make new language files such as Gallery.yourlanguage.php

Then the gallery will pickup the language settings based on the account's language.
