Gallery Pro moving pictures problem

I think I know what the problem is but wondered if there's a work around.

the gallery is a collection of images of fishing vessels

we have a gallery category called 'unknown' wher th name of the vessel is, err.... unknown 

users upload pics to here and other members identify them, they can then be moved to the relevant category.  well thats the principle

but...  all the category's have a 'vessel name' field (except the unknown category for obvious reasons!)

and the 'vessel name' field is flagged as true in all categories, but when a we want to mov something from unknown to another category, it throws an error as the vessel name field is not entered

only work around I can think of is to put the vessel name field on the unknown category and give it a default value, so at least there will be something to pass along to the other categories, then hope the person moving it amends that field

is there any way to create a staging post when moving to prompt the suer to complete the 'empty field'??
