better way to sort items
« on: November 24, 2008, 10:57:55 pm »
with a couple hundred items now in my stores, i am looking for a more efficient way to sort/arrange their order

the only method i am aware of is the [up] [down] feature, which really seems backwards and cumbersome

anyone know of a better method?

thx

What would be a better method?
I could think of a way where you can reorder on each page for an item. Maybe on each page you could have a textbox to enter the new order id. Which would allow you to re order items 1 though # items shown on that page.

actually, if the products just had a sort field similar to the way you organize blocks in tiny portal.

so if i decide i want want product "Z" in front of product "A", i just look at product "A's" sort field and let's say it's value is 30.  I could then go in and edit product "Z" and enter a sort value of 25 and move it ahead of product "A"

of course the values would need to shift and set themselves to values ending in 0, simillar to how the TP Blocks do. That way there is always room to move a product between two others

I had ZenCart prior to SMF Store, and it sorted items and categories the same way

thanks for taking the time to consider this - if you come up with a working solution, i'd be happy to  make a nice donation :)
