Up until I added the URL addition for pictures all my pics on featured came up roughly around 130 x 80. I just had some one add a listing using their own url and the pic shows huge compared to the others at 245 x 318. Is there a setting I need to change to make all the pics whether they upload from their puter or from a URL all be at a consistent size.

It looks horrible with that huge pic in Featured lol!!

Thanks!!!!

That's the hard part about url pictures We can not resize them since they are not hosted on the server.

I unchecked the box next to the Picture URL in settings.

I am trying to list now and it still shows Picture URL along with File URL. I added in a file URL and I am now getting this error message:

An Error Has Occurred!
Please enter a valid picture url starting with http://

All it will let me do is add an outside URL.

Help!!!!!

I think that the remote image can be resized by SMFclassifieds so as to make a thumbnail for it, stored on the server like the other thumbnails. When you click on this thumbnail, the remote photo will be loaded.

(Another solution is to resize with html, to make the thumbnails, but it's not a good idea)

Ιf the remote images don't get resized automatically, any user could link any huge photo and trash the appearance of the ads list and his ad.

I used html resize to solve this temporarily, until it gets fixed like I said in my previous post or with some other way...

In classifieds.template.php change:
Code: [Select]
echo '<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=', $row['ID_LISTING'], '"><img src="', $row['remotefilename'], '" /></a>';
to:
Code: [Select]
echo '<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=', $row['ID_LISTING'], '"><img src="', $row['remotefilename'], '" width="' . $modSettings['class_set_thumb_width'] . '" height="' . $modSettings['class_set_thumb_height'] . '" /></a>';
and:
Code: [Select]
echo '<a href="' . $row['remotefilename']  . '" target="_blank" rel="lightbox[listing]"><img src="' . $row['remotefilename']  . '" alt="" /></a>';
to:
Code: [Select]
echo '<a href="' . $row['remotefilename']  . '" target="_blank" rel="lightbox[listing]"><img src="' . $row['remotefilename']  . '" width="' . $modSettings['class_set_thumb_width'] . '" height="' . $modSettings['class_set_thumb_height'] . '" alt="" /></a>';

Resizing with html isn't ideal since the image could be distorted depending on the size.

And downloading to the server is the opposite purpose of why the allow remote image feature was added to save space.

For sure, but if you have a huge image in an ad or ad list it's even worse.

And downloading to the server is the opposite purpose of why the allow remote image feature was added to save space.

It will be downloaded just once, just to make a thumbnail (ok, the thumbnail will be hosted). The original photo will remain remote.

IMO, if I can't have all thumbnails in the same size (which I define), then the "remote image" option is of no use to me.

Good morning!!

That is also the problem I am having and I have to disable the remote image for this reason while members are wanting it back. They all have pics hosted on Photobucket or another web hosting site and this is the easiest for them to do. When you are talking about 100's or possibly 1000's of pics, folks won't take the time to resize each and every one. They will move on to a place that can handle this for them. Just the problem I am seeing  :)

I can do downloading of pictures but i thought that was the point of remote file storage otherwise why can't they just reupload the image.

I agree with the comments made here. I need a url thumbnail size setting that doesn't distort the main category displays. Perhaps this would mean a gallery option such as the one eBay uses where it automatically resizes it for the search findings and not for the listing itself. Know what I mean? The other option I guess would be to disable image views altogether from the categories, but I think most folks like seeing images within the search finds. Just not super-sized ones. Until this matter is resolved, I'm not even able to use this new remote url option.  :(

Exactly what I was trying to say!

The remote URL is great don't get me wrong. Storing it elsewhere is great. The problem is the pics are uploading huge and without a way to resize the pics then this remote URL is of no good to me. I have consistency with all of the thunbnail pics and then someone used the remote URL and knocked my Classidieds all out of whack with this huge pic. lol
