I defined a category with a custom field add that is "required" with no default value.

When adding a picture, if no text is entered in the custom field, it is reported in the returned page that you must enter a value in the custom field.  A "back" link is provided that takes you back to the previous form.  Once entering a value in the custom field, submitting the form results in an error reporting that "the message has already been submitted" (or something similar).  There is no way to resubmit the form data that I have found, you must go all the way back and begin the upload process from the beginning, and not forget to enter any data for it to work.

Is this a bug, or do I have something misconfigured?

It is a bug. It does a check to make sure that you are not submitting the same gallery picture twice.

Well, at least I know it's a bug.

That's pretty bad from a usability perspective.  Any idea when you might get this fixed?

What is the time frame for that?

I have a time frame for go-live, and I need to know if I need to fix this myself, or if I can afford to wait for your patch.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

While you're at it, why don't you add a search option to search additional fields?  It is missing and frankly makes the additional fields useless.

I feel like I'm the first person to come along and actually use the additional fields functionality...

No, you're not alone and I'm having the same issue. For 'time being' I disabled also the required options on our fields. See this topic: http://www.smfhacks.com/index.php/topic,2871.0.html

We must go live this weekend (21/22 Feb).....

Vincent.

Searching additional fields depends on how that will work. Since currently they are tied to each category. Not sure if it would be a good idea to list all the custom fields for each category on the main search page.

In the short term, I would be satisfied with an option to just search metadata in general.  It's one join out to another table and a match on the search terms.

You can get specific metadata fields listed in the search form later on if you like, but for now at least this will produce hits on the custom fields that the current search does not do.
