Isn't on my radar at the moment for somethiing to work on I am aware of html tag error that only shows for admins with the feeds

I went back and checked on two sites where I have the mod installed, if I am logged on as admin or if I am logged on as guest I still see the HTML tags instead of a formatted post on the items imported using RSS Feed Poster, you can see the same information in the Ad management column that gets imported using RSS2HTML and the formatting is shown.

This is not a barn burner, but I would like to get it fixed, unless there is some setting I cannot find for the RSS Feed Poster, it looks like I will have to wait until the mod is upgraded, or will have to find another utility to do the import with.

The issue is the owner of the task that is run creates it as a guest. I have to redo a chunk of code to make the rss feed cron job think it is admin

Does this have anything to do with the posts showing the HTML tags rather than the formatted post?

I guess I can see how permissions for guest might be preventing something, but it is not clear to me what is all involved

html is restricted to only admins in SMF i have to rewrite that code to allow in a way for only feeds posts.

I have to be honest and say that I don't fully understand, but will take your word that code changes are required before formated posts will be shown in place of all of the ugly <html> tags.

As I said, it is not a barn burner given everything else I have in the pipe, however the posts that get made are very unprofessional looking and IMO really detract from the appearance of the site.

Lemme know if you ever update, in the meantime I will look around for something else that will do the job.

I realize that writing code to deal with RSS is not for the faint of heart, given all of the variations of RSS, atom, and other strange breeds of XML there are floating around out there.

The RSS2HTML does a pretty good job, and willl handle images from some feeds, however I cannot figure out a way to make it work within posts.

When that occurs that means the feed is not a well formed xml document and can't be loaded with the feed poster

Please help me fix this! The Feed Poster config page was loading properly, but now it only loads half the page and I can only edit the first 2 feeds. I have uninstalled, deleted and reinstalled. This did not fix the problem. I think the data that remains in the DB is the issue, but do not know how to fix it. I will buy the upgrade if I can get it to work properly. Thank you!

Ignore previous post, had to manually edit DB. For some reason the third feed entered corrupted the config page. Basically found and copied second row over third, saved, replaced old DB and with edited one. It fixed the issue completely.

This is unusable... images aren't displayed and html tags fill the page making even the text unreadable.

I have been using another product which worked very well, but isn't compatible with 2.0... so now I'm stuck.

I've read through this 12 page post... and spent several hours working on this and have found nothing to indicate how to get this to parse feeds correctly.

Does this actually work? If so, what am I missing?

Hi,

I think the feed poster is a fantastic idea, & for me, it's working perfectly.

BUT

Is there a way to download full articles, including images etc? Am I missing something, or can this mod do this already?

Here is a link to my forums, the link will take you to the RSS Feed forum, where ive just installed the 'RSS Feed Poster' the other day.

http://www.doauk.org/smf/index.php?board=10.0

As you can see, the mod is posting feeds, but here's my problem...

The most recent feed (found here http://www.battlefield.com/uk/battlefield3/blog/battlefield3-battleblog8) has many images, & lots of text. Where as the actual post that the RSS Feed Poster has made, is tiny (found here http://www.doauk.org/smf/index.php?topic=69.0) and includes hardly any text, and no images at all.

Can anyone give me any help/advice?

It would be much appreciated,

FizZ

Vegas Jay

Jay, (and saftek),

Open the /Sources/Subs-RSS.php file and do the following...

Search for:
Code: [Select]
if ($feed['html'])
{
//echo "body: " . $context['feeditems'][$i]['description'];
$msg_body =  $func['htmlspecialchars']($context['feeditems'][$i]['description'], ENT_QUOTES);
$msg_body = $func['htmltrim']($msg_body);
preparsecode($msg_body);
$msg_body = '
' . $msg_body . '
';

Replace with:
Code: [Select]
if ($feed['html'])
{
//echo "body: " . $context['feeditems'][$i]['description'];
$msg_body =  $func['htmlspecialchars']($context['feeditems'][$i]['description'], ENT_QUOTES);
$msg_body = $func['htmltrim']($msg_body);
preparsecode($msg_body);
$msg_body = '
' . $msg_body . '
';
$msg_body = html_entity_decode($msg_body,ENT_QUOTES);

You are seeing html in the post because the html is getting converted into html entities. The html_entity_decode will reverse this. http://php.net/manual/en/function.html-entity-decode.php

I did not do thorough testing but this should give you something to go on.

I bet this is easy answer but I cant seem to figure out whats wrong. The php script for cron gets an internal server error when I try to execute it. Everything loaded right and all the files are there. And curl is for sure turned on the server I had provider check.
