Here's another one...
SMF WebcomicSets a specified board to a "Webcomic Board".
Webcomic boards are ALWAYS "reply only", and are ordered by first post in each topic by default.
When you view a Webcomic Board, you see the first posts of the latest thread at the top of the page, followed by the usual topic listing below.
Any file attached to the original post of the newest thread will be displayed above the text of the post.
This makes it so that viewing the Webcomic Board will always display the latest post immediately, effectively displaying the "Latest Comic Page."
Example:
NAME OF BOARD - By MODERATOR OF BOARD
"NAME OF TOPIC"
(ATTACHMENT FROM FIRST POST OF LATEST TOPIC)
Links to view the first post on this board, the previous post, the next post, and the latest post go here.
Text of the first post of the latest topic goes here.
# of Comments goes here, etc.
How this would look when in action...
My Cool Webcomic - By Motorhed
"Joe is a robot!"
(LATEST COMIC PAGE)
First - Previous - Next - Last
Here's the latest page. Sorry it was late! In this strip, Joe discovers he's actually a robot and starts beating up his cousin.
5 Comments - Post a Comment
Posts are ordered by FIRST POST, so new replies do not bump up a topic. This makes the post listing into an ordered archive of past pages.
Viewing any post will have the same display. Title, The attachment, then post text, etc. etc. etc.
This essentially allows the admin to create a "Webcomic Board" for themself or another user, then set the webcomic creator as that board's moderator.
The moderator then can post regularly on the board, but whenever they add an attachment, the board shows that as the latest comic page!
Simple, when you really get down to it... Maybe?
Reading through a webcomic's archive is as easy as looking at past posts and using the "previous" link... or start from the beginning with "first".
It would be nice if you could also post-date topics when you post them. That way you could post all of this year's webcomic pages, but they'd show on the specific dates you want to update the strip.
It would also be nice if the TITLE of the page (in your browser's title bar) read as such:
NAME OF BOARD by NAME OF MODERATOR - "NAME OF THREAD" @ NAME OF OVERALL FORUM
Example:
My Cool Webcomic By Motorhed - "Joe is a robot!" @ HostMyComic.com
Possible features for "Pro" version:- SSI to include your webcomic on any page.
- Star-based ranking system per page.
- Other styles of archiving, for example a calendar or drop-down.
- Option to set a post as "Text Only", which will not displace the current webcomic page if you want to just post a text update. In other words, post goes to list of topics, but does not take the place of the webcomic page at the top when viewing the board.
- "Share this page" link to e-mail specific post to friends.
- Post-dating topics could be a pay feature.
Thanks! I sincerely hope this sounds good... could really use it.
This is actually running on SMF, with clever SSI hacks and building upon the work of others...
http://www.mrhonor.com/?start=3Though it's not exactly what I'm pitching here, it might give you a better idea of it.
The webcomic image displayed is an attachment from a post on the SMF board.
