Auto Resize Image
« on: April 05, 2012, 06:50:21 am »
Hi there, sorry I had been spamming alot of questions lately. Trying my best to launch my site the soonest!

I had invited a batch of testers for the site, and seems like everyone of them uploads photos which are like 10mb in size! Is there a way when they upload that type of files, it automatically shrinks the file to the size limit I set? Whenever they try to upload a pic bigger than the limit, the page just goes blank, and the users will get puzzled. I've added a note below the "Choose File" button, where it states the file size limit.

But the ideal way would be like FB where it will shrink the images automatically. Not everyone is tech savvy, they might use their high end HD cameras and take the photos, and have no idea how to use a graphic software to reduce the file size.

Please help! :(

I'm getting this error when my file dimension is bigger than what I set.. it doesn't automatically resize it, and it doesn't show a notification, just this error page. most users are experiencing this.

Check your forum's error log for any related errors. Could be a memory limit or file upload limit.

Also check this post for increasing your upload limits

my server is set to 20mb. you can see

http://triggerinc.net/info.php

the error happens only when user uploads a bigger dimension than the limit i set. not about the file size. =(

memory_limit   32M is very small I would bump it up to at least 256mb

Is that the cause of the error?

ok that fixed it, got my server to change it to 256m, but there's another problem. In my classifieds settings I set it to 1440x1440 max, and checked the "auto resize if image is too large", but it doesn't seem to work. i tested with a 4000x4000 pixel image, and it was uploaded and not resized the the limit i set.

How can i fix this?

Haven't been able to repeat this issue test on both SMF versions and the image is resized to the max height/width set.

Post what Settings you have and the picture width, height. And t hen do a couple different images as well trying them out and different file types.

Settings that control it include: Max Image Width/Height and if image is too large will be resized setting

Max allowed image height: 1440
Max allowed image width: 1440
Max image filesize: 10485760
