If the file is too large to upload via a form?
« on: May 14, 2012, 11:07:12 am »
I have a few files that seems to larger to upload so I'm wondering about this option.

Quote
Import File Path
If the file is too large to upload via a form. Then enter the full path on your webhosting to the file.

What is the best way to do this so they are secure?

Should I just create a folder in the public_html?

What about file names? If I have a file called 123washermanual.pdf would I be better giving it some random file name or don't it really matter.

I would like to keep the .pdf files I would be using for the store on my web host privet so google don't find them.

What would you suggest is the best way?

Thanks,

I believe the link will be masked if it is too large but a unique name will help.  Google can't index the store storage folder unless you delete the index.php in the store folder

Ok, sounded simple enough.

I can't seem to create a new folder in public_html/forums/store

I try to add a folder called large.

I can add folders just fine to other areas of my /forums with ftp, but there seems to be something keeping me from adding a new folder to /store

Any ideas?

Check file permissions should be at least 755.

It's at 777.

Any reason someone would not get a download link sent to them after a purchase?
Had one today that claimed he did not receive a download link.

Our download stats does not show that he downloaded anything, but the purchase was made.

Yesterday we sold a number of downloads and no one said anything about not getting a link and the download logs show they all downloaded files yesterday.

A couple possible reasons why did not receive the email, could be an email filter, bad email address, email went to their junk/bulk/spam folder.

Check this option "Receive copy of sales email" just in case anyone claims to never get a  copy of it you can always forward to the user.

Is that the same email the customer see too? Do they then go to http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?action=store;sa=myorders in the email to get their download from our site or should a download link be included in their email?

If they have to follow that link back to our site for their download I should maybe change:

Yeah that is the same email they get.
They would go to http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?action=store;sa=myorders to get the files if they are not a guest.

If a guest they get a secure download link to the file.

ok, lol...

Shows you how much I know. :)

I bet they got the same email, but did not understand they had to visit that link to get the download.

I will change the wording a bit. I see you made it easy to customize the email.

Thank you,
