Not uploading photos of high resolution
« on: December 19, 2012, 09:20:05 am »
I have set the max resolution for my site on 3000x3000 so bigger photos would be resized.

Problem is that photos with high resolutions are not being uploaded. It starts to upload but never returns to the site and leaves it on a blank page (while photo is not uploaded). I have an image for test with a resolution of 7728x4354 (yes,33 Mpixles and from a phone) with 7,6 Mb that I can't upload.

Is this a limitation from the Gallery Pro or something on my sde (I already run tests by changing the resolution and max size upload).

I don't think that's the problem. I have 10Mb images uploaded. I think it's due to the high resolution of the photo (maybe on the conversion to the max resolution allowed).

Problem must be the resolution. Anything that I can do to allow uploading very high resolution images?

You could try to contact your hosting company and make sure they have the latest version of GD installed.

I am too having this issue, I have high resolution photos and set it 3264x3264, my biggest picture and
php_value upload_max_filesize 16M
php_value post_max_size 8M

I will ask my host and try to get back here and report the findings.

What's your memory limit? We might have to increase the limit

I am currently trying to get access to the phpinfo.php to check.  I am taking over as admin but that transition hasnt quite happened fully.  Sent email to full admin to add the phpinfo file, so waiting to here back, is there another way to see the memory limit?

Don't know of another way other than having access to ftp to create files and stuff.

I've continued to investigate this to discover that it does upload to the site but fails when trying to display in the gallery. On the host, the image is uploaded but I think there is no thumbnail, only a file like "2-200113122313.jpeg_thumb.tmp".  I think the problem is while creating the thumbnail, so it's a problem in the gallery and not on my side (or my host side).

Edit: Added a photo example of an upload failure with the Thumb created, which I think is where the problem occurs.

Btw, is it safe to delete this photos since they don't appear on the Gallery?

I changed hosts and voila!  Problem fixed!  Has to be a memory limit set on the hosts side.

But did you had the same thing, ie, the picture was uploaded but it failed to create the Thumb? Or the file wasn't even uploaded?

I still have this problem and it's becoming a bigger issue with more members trying to upload pictures with similar resolutions...    :-\
